up-pipe questions
hey everyone, in considering buying an up pipe for my first mod on my 04 question is do i have to get a tune when i replace my factory up pipe seeing as how i know these cars dont take kindly to bolt on without a tune. i plan on buying a cobb access port in the future but am short on money...also what up pipes would yall recomend. thanks

No, you won't NEED a tune. But it will benefit you.

Try to get ahold of a stock 06-07 WRX or 04-07 STi up pipe.

No need to buy an overpriced piece unless you plan on doing the whole 9 yards in the immediate future. Are you changing it out due to the catalytic in the UP ?

Any 06+ WRX will work and all STI pipes will work. You can get em for <$60 shipped off a classifieds.

I will say this. Do not buy a cheap ebay one. Learn from my mistake. its been a nasty headache that just won't go away. Grimmspeed gasket won't even fix my leak. Its on my to fix list but well i didn't exactly have fun with my install so Im waiting until i forget the bloody knuckles and anger of it all :P

thanks for the info guys, to pzr2874 im replacing it cause of the restrictive cat on the factory pipe. i do plan on upgrading the whole exhaust system in the future but figured the up pipe would be a good start. my biggest concern with the sti pipe is i know it doesnt have a bung for the EGT sensor, so if i had the bung welded onto the pipe would it throw a cel later on down the road?

Just do the resistor mod... Google search wrx up pipe resistor and you'll find instructions on how to do it, but basically you put a resistor in the plug that the sensor would have plugged into to trick the system.

I'll take chris's word on the 08+ WRX UPs...the STI layout hasn't changed that much in the 3rd gens. So, the pipes are the same. Seeing as how the turbo layout is still the same; the UP would be the same as previous years.
