Yes, a catless up pipe on a map made for a catted up pipe will change the spool of the turbo enough to throw the map off.

Get the DP also and go Stage 2... I did it a few years ago and still feels great!

A catless up pipe will be fine to run on the "stg1" map... Just watch your psi.

Aftermarket or stocker from a newer WRX/STi ?

You can run a catless UP stage 2 though right?

^^Not too sure, but I remember ppl in the past doing it and being fine till they got a tune

You shouldn't stray from the map notes on the OTS COBB maps. You can run whatever you want on the car.... but be wary and get a tune shortly thereafter. Use the OTS maps as a "limp mode" to get to a tuner. As Chris said above my previous post.... You NEED mapping done, but be careful.

Yes you can run an STI or 06/07 WRX up pipe as they are both catless and somewhat easy to find and cheaper than most aftermarket ones. And yes you can run a catless up on a stg2 setup. Most up pipes are generally the same diameter as stock, just with no cat in it.

catless up pipe

I just installed a catless UP in my 2002 WRX. Vehicle has no other modification. Should I get it tuned? I drove it after install and seems to run fine. I wasn't looking for any more power, just didn't like the possibility of cat failure and ruining my turbo. I just bought the WRX a couple weeks ago and if it needs a tune I would probably do more mods. A tune around here cost $500.00. Thanks

Isnt it pretty much safe to say anything besides a cat-back will need a tune?

not always, the bugeyes tend to be able to do intake and DP's without tunes but an UP will just throw the ECU into a fit eventually

I got rid of the Pyro on mine when i did the up pipe and block the hole off. Just make sure to get the OEM gaskets for your UP and DO NOT use those cheap gaskets that look like Alum. Foil haha.

Buddy of mine on his 05 Baja blew out the Grimmspeed gaskets as well.... So OEM is prob the correct route. Good point.

thanks

Thanks for all the info! I guess I will be doing some more mods before getting it tuned though. I'll probably do STI TMI, catted down pipe and 3" cat back.
Any suggestions on a catted down pipe?
Thanks again
