Turbo Upgraded

After a long time of waiting i have finally installed a VF22 turbo (with all of the necessary supporting mods injectors, pump, egt, wbO2, etc.) It took about 12 hours, some of that time spent waiting to get my dp back with the bung welded in just to find out that the guy wouldn't have time for it, i saved some money and had a friend do it after work. I'm very happy that everything works and i cant wait to start tuning tomorrow...

1 question (for now i'll probably have more later today when i start tuning and after i sleep) i sprayed my turbo gaskets with copper gasket sealant, would that cause it to appear that the turbo is smoking.

its not leaking coolant (flushed and have no air bubbles) , oil, or gas .

Yeah that could...or WD40, if you used any heat wrapping, spray on cermamic coating, I am sure the turbo would not smoke in the engine bay...if anything was wrong with the turbo you would hear it and see smoke (or parts or it ) coming out the exhaust.

Out the exhaust?!? Really! thats odd lol

Im sure he will see some smoke, as you do with headers and exhaust and all. Good luck with it all

Out the exhaust if the turbo fails is what I was referring to

what is normal spool time for a VF22? (what approx rpm range is this achieved)

Can the 22 handle about 19-20 psi from this spot to red line? what psi should i be expecting at red line?

is 10.5: 1 a good a/f at red line?

I think the VF22 typically spools at around 3800rpms....20 psi is very safe for that turbo but I wouldn't count on it holding to redline....I am not sure what a/f you should use for that turbo and your fuel set-up

You probably want a better answer but from reading other ppl's posts here, it seems 11.0 or 11.5 are more common at full boost to redline. I've never tuned one myself though, don't take my word

No way mine is already boosting way more than that at redline, its running at like 16.5 at redline. I've gotten it to hold close to 20 all the way to about 5500- 6000 then it tapers off to 16.5 at redline... i've been on vacation for a wek so i havent been able to tune but i hope to get it all done tomorrow.

Alright so I was doing a 3rd gear run today and my car bucked violently... found out it was because the over boost cut off was set at 20psi so i changed it to 22 psi... then i did another run and my cel turned on... i got it checked and it said that my waste gate solenoid was bad... could that be from boosting more than me ecu "liked"?
