Turbo Up-Pipe Thermal Shields
Getting my Invidia [cat-less] turbo up-pipe installed on my '04 WRX on Jun 25, and it was suggested I wrap and coat the pipe as part of the installation.
I believe the concept for heat shielding is to reduce thermal losses prior to the turbo to optimize it's function, but is this recommendation because the OEM turbo up-pipe has shields that can't be reused with the Invidia item?
Also, do I really need to wrap AND coat the turbo up-pipe, or is wrapping sufficient for a daily driver with occasional track use?
Wrapping should be fine. The stock shields aren't the greatest, it can't hurt to wrap it while you have the opportunity.
After wrapping you should give it a good heavy coat of sealer. It is made specially for exhaust wrap and comes in black or titanium colors.
