Ok so i figure its about time to do the inlet. Oem one is really getting soft at the turbo and the last thing i need is for it to fail and take my turbo with it. When i did my uppipe i did it from the top and like they do it tore a bit. I did a temp fix and i don't wanna chance it any longer. So i was wondering what you guys are using and how the installs went. Been looking at the perrin but i have read that there aren't enough nipples on it what do you guys that use these do for that?? Let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance!
*In buttheads voice*"You said nipples...hahahahhhhauhuhahaha". On a serious note I use a Perrin inlet and I don't remember any missing nipples. Granted I have had mine for a billion years it seems like. I recommend them or the APS hard intake pipe(I think that's the name, I know it's red in color).
Yeah i said nipples ha ha. I was leaning toward a silicone type just to try and avoid taking the intake manifold off. Ok so ill have to read more on the perrin stuff because i have seen in more than one post that they are missing a connection point... Hmmm. Now Im really curious. Ha ha
The APS inlet is hard to come by....the Agency Power hard inlet is a APS knock off and its on my car. Now, the hard inlets need the intake manifold to be removed slightly to get the inlet in there.
Right that's why Im leaning toward the silicone stuff. This car will be going to my wife next year and Im trying to get my list of stuff that could go wrong done. She usually takes the kiddos places in her car so i don't want any loose ends.
I used a Perrin Inlet. Removing the oem inlet was a PITA!
I basically tore the thing out of my car. Installing the Perrin went a little quicker but its a tight squeeze.
Yeah kirt i think you may have! I like the price too! I wouldn't mind putting a perrin on if it was a little less expensive. And if it had all the connection ports there so i didn't have do do anything new to make it work. This will prob go on with a Cobb sf intake and the modding will be completely done forever aside from a protune in plano. Can't wait to get my sti in the spring!!!
First year for the STi, my only word of advise is to do a compression check. They are known for having ringland failure...Also be careful of the right(passenger) front axle shaft..
I've used some other turbo inlets and decided to start selling a nice fitting one. Its similar to the samco but can be installed without removing the manifold. It takes about an hour to install and fits nicely. It has clearance for the power steering bolt and is easy to get on the turbo.
Thanks, I will try to get vendor status in the future, I'm just starting out in the Subaru community(havent even sold anything for subarus yet), I've been in the BMW market for the last 5 years. The I.D is much smoother/less restrictive and opens up to a larger I.D. than stock. The sound of the turbo spooling after the install is awesome.
If you can still get them, avoid APS. It's a nice piece, but it was a nightmare to install and still have some rubbing issues. Surprised it hasn't rubbed thru yet.
Everything APS is insanely hard to get a hold of. My Agency Power inlet is basically a knock off APS inlet. I don't have any issues with it. Or was this directed at someone else?
Yeah, mine was installed when my motor was pulled. Otherwise you need to loosen up the intake manifold or just take it off. Not as easy as the flexible inlets.
