Turbo Blanket?

I ran across a pretty awesome thread over on NASIOC about turbo blankets and it got me all fired up to get one. Especially since I don't even have the stock heat shield on there.

Infrared camera fun (grimmspeed heatshield, PTP turbo blanket) - NASIOC

Probably going with this one from PTP:

PTP Turbo Blankets

Is anybody else using a blanket from PTP? Thoughts / experiences?

Generally, turbo blankets aren't used on stock turbos because they can interfere with the wastegate actuator arm. With enough creativity though, it could probably be modified to work, but the easiest solution is some type of turbo heat shield.

I'm using a Prosport turbo blanket, but I have an external wastegate.

I'm fairly certain that PTP designed their Subaru turbo blankets with the wastegate actuator arm in mind. I have an email to them asking if there are any fitment issues with a stock turbo setup. The main reason I am interested in getting the turbo blanket is because it is only slightly more expensive then a turbo shield and seems like it would do a better job.

You're right, the PTP blanket does look thinner so it might work after all.

Response from PTP:

Thanks for your interest in PTP Turbo Blankets.

Our Subaru Turbo Blankets are specifically designed to fit the stock Subaru
turbo chargers, especially WRX/STI. There would be no issues whatsoever,
it's the best turbo blanket fitment.

Thanks,

PTP Turbo Blankets

I stand corrected, some turbo blankets work on stock turbos. Thanks for the info!

I can still say for sure there is no way a Prosport turbo blanket would work with an internal wastegate actuator arm without some kind of modification - it's entirely too thick
