TD04 PnP

Thinking about doing some port and polishing on the engine and gonna start on the turbo since its looks like it needs a good cleaning and the easiest to get to.

When I first got the car and changed the inlet hoses I saw a lot of oil blow-by so I know it needs a good cleaning.

Any tips on disassembling without having to worry about causing a headache.
Or any thing to look for while its out.

It's a BIG PITA once you remove the clamp on the turbo, I know that much.

Well depends on how far you really wanna go to make it worth while? If I were you I'd consider buy another turbo to upgrade or send it to Blouch for their 19T upgrade.

Yeah I got a catch can some time back never got around to putting it on.
I was kinda thinking about picking up a used one just, was already checking out a used intake/exhaust manifold's
And whenever I got a beater for work Im gonna try to do the Throttle body,Headers
Cross over pipe & Up pipe.

Using it for DD right now so I dont have that much down time to work with.

Also found this link to take the turbo apart not sure if TD04 would be the same exact process but should be close right? Turbo Rebuild

If your going to rebuild a turbo do it right. Send the center section out and have it balanced. Other than that it's pretty straight forward assembly. Although i don't have an 11sec stock turboed car so i know nothing on the subject.....that just doesn't get old.

VF73... LOL

My wife's Foz has 88K on the td04 and I think it's headed to be a paperweight soon. Although my k04 on my speed has 115K, it's still holding strong. Ehh, Borg Warner vs Mitsu I suppose.

Usually that's the other way around...Mitsu turbos last better than Borg ones do...Just ask any Audi owner....

I've been seeing that of late and I don't understand what these guys are doing to these hairdryers. Only thing I can think of is irregular OCI's. Who knows

Yeah back to buying a PNP VF73 turbo...
I would suggest just upgrading to something else or getting a stock one rebuild. Honestly it's just not worth the hassle on a stock turbo. Unless you are searching for a record of some sort...hint hint...

Thanks for the input guys.
If I upgrade the turbo gonna need a Pro-tune right?

I was just looking into just cleaning the TD04 up to get a lil more life out of it since it has 122k on it.
I checked the shaft when I swapped my DP and didn't notice any so guess that's a +.
