Stock cat back with Helix DP

Alright, I know this has probably been posted somewhere, but after searching and searching, I'm starting a new thread, sorry guys.

I've been told different things about the Helix Catted DP mating to the stock cat back. I just ordered the Helix DP and called Scoobytuner to see if I needed an adapter to make it work with the factory cat back, they told me it would fit without problems. The Helxi states its a full 3" so I was under the impression I needed to get a flange to make it fit. If I do need it, any suggestions on sites where I can get one?

Also I've heard the UP and DP install can be a pain. I have a lift, all the tools other than an O2 socket (plenty of other sockets), and a few friends to help. I was wondering if it would be worth it to have it installed by an exhaust shop or should I just get a case of beer and install it myself.

p.s. I'll get the case of beer even if a shop installs the UP and DP, so don't let the beer influence your advice.

p.s.s. It will be Miller Lite

I run the 3" HKS DP with a stock 2.75" STI exhaust. No bolt up problems.

I tried it but it did want to line up right. But it might have just been me.

If they're flanged the same then they'll bolt up, its just going to create backpressure. I'd personally wait for the catback though.

It has been dyno tested that you will only lose 5hp with the stock CBE. If you are on the stock turbo, a 3" exhaust is not needed. You will lose some low end.

i was running that but didn't sound any different and it felt like crap compared to an 3 inch catback.

I'm interested to see how that would bolt up myself. I have a 2.5 cat back but I plan on getting the helix dp too. I'd be glad to help if you want.....pm me I'm only a couple hours away..

no, you won't. This isn't some NA VTEC honda. You get plenty of backpressure from the turbo itself. A cutout gives no noticeable drop in low end, let alone a 3" exhaust. As for the catback costing you 5hp, not on a stock turbo it won't. The stock catback is not a restriction until you get into larger turbos

I am currently using a 3" Invidia V2 downpipe mated to a stock catback and the fitment is fine. I put a gasket in between and no leaks so far.

Even though you guys say it does not matter much when going with 3" exhaust to something smaller, I'd beg to differ. I went from HKS Hi-Power(full 3") then to Fujitsubo Powergetter (3" with tapers at the connections) and now the stock catback. There was a noticeable difference as I kept going smaller. I even felt a difference between full 3" and the tapers. I plan on getting a full 3" when I am getting a new catback.

Oh and the stock catback with aftermarket downpipe does not sound good and wastegate flutter is all you hear at light throttle.

It's a catted Helix DP, I need the cat to pass PA inspection, and I want to keep things relatively quiet. Here all they do is a visual inspection for a cat on the car, some people just bolt a peice over a catless exhaust to just make it look like it has a cat on it. Or if you know the shop well enough, they'll just let it slide and slap an inspection sticker on it.

Over on Nasioc a guy posted the highest stock turbo numbers ever with a stock catback on. I forgot what they are but they were insane. I run a stock catback, and plan on doing so with my vf30 as well.
