actually i was talking about the second part of the question about the STI having the same second gear problem. He said they are bullet proof, but from what i told you i dont think they are as bullet proof as people like to think.

I have never heard of a person having problems with the STi trans in general, let alone 2nd gear. I know someone running 320whp out of his WRX with and STi trans and he can drop it at 6k with no problems, just burns out a little and takes off. Hes always drag racing it too.

I have a good friend that I went to the track with not too long ago that has one. He drives that thing like a maniac. Takes it to the track almost every week and is not gentle with it. He's not had a problem yet.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...

STi trannys are near indestructable, but other parts of the driveline are.

i have heard that when changing the fluid a manual does not have to be drained. Is this true??

If thats the case then you would just keep adding fluid and adding fluid without ever removing any. So yes you have to drain it first.
