You can use your current BPV with the STI intercooler.

Yup, that's what I did. Pick up a new gasket for insurance. Mine was $7 at my dealer.

How much better is the STI intercooler compared to a stock 03 intercooler?

It can limit a VF39 stage 2 with upgraded fuel mods and 3-port. But, its fine for just a normal stage 2.

Like Kirt said, ok for a stg2, better than a stock WRX, but if you are looking beyond that, save up and get a bigger and better one that even the STI unit.

Truthfully you can use them for turbo's even bigger than a VF39 and still get good results. Although I don't really advise using one without the correct hood scoop and air splitter.

I upgraded my splitter and my Perrin TMIC which was a better design my VF39 than my STI TMIC. Mostly because its bar and plate design vs fin and tube. Its larger and cooled the charged air better. Thats all I'm saying. Can you run a STI tmic and still make good results. Yes...could you run a larger/better TMIC and get better results? Yes.

...some would also argue that the price for a Perrin, or a Process West TMIC, you could go FMIC for a bit more and have even better results!

Depending on the turbo its not going to be that big of a difference. A FMIC on a TD04-13T is pretty useless and is extreme overkill.

Not with 2" piping. But 2.5" or 3" is pretty standard with the FMIC kits.

I'm one of the biggest supporters of TMICs on smaller turbos and here I am getting one for my new turbo. But, I'm kind of forced into it unless I want crap performance out of my Dom 3.0 beta turbo. FMICs don't have as much heat soak, but if you're moving it won't matter as much. FMICs are very prone to damage being so easily exposed to it up front. I'm going to be paranoid with my FMIC.

Meh, I ride around in my GSX pretty rough (use it like a snow plow) with a 3.5" core. A fin gets dinged up here and there, but how they bolt to the frame is pretty sturdy. Would have to knock it pretty good, as in to the point of tweaking the frame, to really f it up. The only PITA (if your core is large) is hacking up the bumper.
