I was wondering whats your guys opinion on modding or upgrading a tranny?? On one side....i can try and go for the STI version 8 crate tranny wit LSD and DCCD...(expensive as hell but i know its worth every dayam penny)...and the other side is just modding my gears...with STI version 6 gearsets.....whats your guys opinion??? and what is more beneficial in terms of performance....### thats all i want...i don't even care for having a 6th gear....although it would be nice welp thanks in advance for any feedback i get...late!
Version 6 isn't all that strong compared to some of the other Aftermarket 5 speed tranny gearsets out there, so I'd have to say go with the STi's 6 speed.
Also you have to think what you want to use your car for.. if its the 1/4 mile then i would say stay with the 5 speed and get a kazza gear set , or ra gears.. but if you are auto crossing with your car then i go with the 6 speed..
WRX STI ra V6 gearset handles 350whp without a problem. and with the five speed your 0-60 will be faster because sti's requiere a 2-3 upshift before 60, the five speed will hold second well past 60,
You may have to shift more, but the gears are different and make more of the power felt. The 6 speed is where its at man, just for the DCCD. I mean, who doesnt want to make their rex almost completely rear wheel drive?
I've got a question along the same lines, are there better synchros that could be bought to allow you to slam between gears without worry? I think that's where my early symptoms of tranny problems are starting to occur. I think I want to just get the Ver VI gearset, but I want to be able to shift quickly without worry and that's not really a gear "weakness" issue, but more of a synchro problem.
So I guess my question is, if I blow a synchro, do I just replace it with the Genuine Subaru Synchro or are there better ones out there? My apologies for being Transmission ignorant, just haven't had any exposure to them yet.
