stage 2 turbo/ecu?

Will a stage 2 turbo put out more boost with the stock boost controller or will it just change the range of the power band?
If it does change the boost a little will the ecu compensate for the extra boost by adding more fuel or will it lean out?

What is a stage 2 turbo? If you mean Cobb stage 2, it raises the boost a bit and richens the mixture accordingly.

Stock is aruond 13.5-14psi with 16psi spikes. Right now with my Stage 2 and bellmouth DP I am hitting roughly 17psi with spikes of up to 19 or 20psi. I am nearly at the end of the stock turbocharger's efficiency which is right around 18psi (where it just starts to blow hot air into the intake, hot air is thin and the car runs better on colder air). That is why people start to upgrade turbos. More volume with a larger effeciency range.

Is having Stage 2 really neccessary to start upgrading the turbo already? I thought it was still safe and okay to run like that.

Oh no, it is fully safe to stop at stage 2, many people do.

It is just true that at that stage, a new turbo would give you the largest gains for the least amount of money.

If you are refering to a stage 2 computer reprogram, the ECU will be "tricked" into thinking that everything is functioning as normal. If you are using a UTEC or Accessport, the fuel is compensated for (too much actually). Both programs are very safe to run. They both et the car up to run very rich. You can tune either one out further to achieve better results

Well the guy I bought my car from told me it has a stage 2 turbo and a stage 2 clutch. You can feel that it has the clutch. I just bought a boost gauge and an air/fuel gauge. I am waiting on shipping for the gauge bezel so I don't have them installed yet. I have no idea what kind of boost I am getting and I probably won't for a week or so. As for the power: it seems to have quite a bit of lag to about 2900 rpm, then you can feel and hear the boost with decent power, then at 4500 rpm you get a big jump in power. I tried to time it once with a stop watch and 0-60mph was 5.3, but that's probably not very accurate. Trying to launch properly and click a button at the same time is kinda tricky with this car.

Look for any marking on the turbo, IHI is the most popular.

It's really hard to tell from that pic... can you post a pic of another part of the turbo or another angle or something?

I just installed a boost gauge and max boost is 12.5psi @ 4500, then it drops to 10psi on it's way too 7000. Does this sound right for a stock turbo?
