stage 2 advice...

ok ive been planning since ive had my car to go to stage 2 with my 03 wrx (121,000miles). i am currently stage 1 with a Cobb AP v2, cobb sf intake, and borla 14978 cat back. I plan on getting a cobb catted dp and a walboro or deatchwerks fuel pump. (not sure if i need a install kit if i bring it to an import shop or not) i plan on flashing a ots stage 2 map with this setup until i can add a cobb ebcs and cobb ots stage 2 + ebcs map. then my obvious route is a road tune by mike botti, or e tune by torqued performance. id love to do more stuff or more than just the dp and fuel pump with the tune at first but i have a very tight budget. also as many of you guys know im more of a computer guy than a mechanic. if i run into problems would a normal import shop or subaru dealership be able to resolve most of my problems? I am open to any advice you guys could give me. my main goal is just to get a little more power from the car and have a mean sob of a dd. thanks for any advice!

That is where the advantages of dyno tuning come into play. If there are any problems, you can start the troubleshooting right there. Mikey is a very reputable tuner and would probably be your best bet over a e-tune. Not that there is anything wrong with a e-tune or torqued performance (torqued is great as well). It's just that if your worried about problems arising, you would have an experienced tuner that has probably seen it all right there with the car. For a e-tune, you wont have this luxury and things could get stressful if a problem comes about.

I'm in the exact same boat. 03,uppie,downpipe,pump,very modded stock airbox,Borla twin tip catback 110,000mi and my tuner is 3.5hrs away. The only difference is I didn't play with the AP or any re-flashing. With these mods I really don't need to. It's an 03. It'll hold until I drive out to my tuner in August.

Get the install kit for the pump. You need the in-tank filter and the rubber stop at least.Walbro Installation Kit Subaru WRX / STI 2002-2007 400-791 at RallySportDirect.com I didn't need the fuel line they sent me so I cut it in half length-wise and put the 2 halfs between the pump and the bracket to further cut down on vibration.

Like so...

All right, where is the distributor cap? I need to find the #1 plug wire to hook up my SUN machine.

I'll tell all in my build thread. (If I ever get to it)

My Catless downpipe finally arrived for my Bugeye. I will be fully catless with no muffler. Will the Accessport get rid of the Check engine Light when I install it tomorrow and change over to the Stage 2 91 octane map?

Woh! Hang on there Ringo! don't put on that ebcs until you get to your dyno! Don't drive around with that on there and no tune.

Other than that go for it! I'm into my 2nd week with downpipe, uppie, no cats and no tune. Everything is "A-Ok" Good ta' Go!

A catless uppipe would be idea also. You wouldn't want pieces of the stock cat going up into your turbo causing damage. If its been a while I would go ahead and change the spark plugs before your tune as well. You want your car running at its best before getting strapped down to a dyno for tuning.

Where do you live? IMHO if a good, reputable tuner can be found within 3-4 hr drive, it's well worth the trip.

there is a shop like 30 minutes away from me that are putting in a brand new awd mustang dyno, and offering tunes on all makes and models. i talked to them and they said they were getting it ready in 2-3 weeks. before this i would have to go to Conn., a ~3 hour drive. i believe the tuner there is pretty good though. hopefully the tuner at this new place is good. im gonna have to talk it out with them to see if i think they will do the work. the place im talkin about is elite auto works in goshen ny.

I went to ECS Performance in CT. They know their Shiz when it comes to subies. While I was there 10 people showed up having STi's and WRX's to get their dyno slot paid for. I drove 2 hrs just to go to them when there was a tuner only 40 mins away from me.
