You will just hear the turbo spool and BPV go off better, thats all. No real gains from it.

^^ I wouldn't run it.

Maybe nothing serious, but it's still a turd and useless. Well it does do well at raising IATs.
Just do the silencer delete and call it a day.

The only time you need an intake is if your turbo starts having trouble getting the air it needs. Otherwise, your car came with a stock CAI. Get a drop-in.

Either SPT's High Flow (a.k.a. Short Ram) Air Intake or Cobb's SF Intake System will be perfectly fine on your car, however, both of these intakes should only really be considered as supporting modifications if you plan on upgrading your turbo in the future. Otherwise, you'd be better off spending your money on a K&N (or other brand) replacement panel style air filter if you want a little extra power and performing the intake silencer (a.k.a. snorkus) delete modification if you want to hear a little extra sound.

i got the SPT intake on my stock turbo n i love it. the car's got a deep growl at high end RPM, turbo spool is CRAZY LOUD (not loud as in loud loud, but u can hear it alright), and some people think i have a blow off valve. so i love it

Type "wrx intake silencer delete mod" or something similar into your favorite search engine (I prefer Google) and you'll find your answer. I used a GP Moto elbow on my car, but there are other creative and arguably less expensive ways to do it. I just took the lazy way out.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess he's looking for relatively inexpensive basic bolt-ons which yield small hp gains?

...such as a lightweight (not underdriven!) crank pulley, or maybe a silicon turbo inlet pipe?

Well, the delete is just mainly for sound. I would recommend to do a drop in and the elbow if you want an intake.
You get the benefits of the box (denser air), the growl of an intake (BPV noise too), and the performance of an open element (to an extent).
If you plan on staying under a Big 16G stick with the box. Unless your like that guy on nasioc with a VF22 running 27psi and collapsing the AftaMAF.
Plus, MOST any OTS map calls for a drop in.....not an open element. Most tuners, modders, knowledgeable people will tell you you have to calibrate the MAF on almost any intake no matter what the company selling it states. If you really want one, throw it on right before a "ProTune".

Saying that get a panel and some form of EM. I am partial to Opensource.....it's basically free. Worked as good or better than any After Market EM (non standalone) out there.

Nasioc Classifieds Panel Filter: 60 bucks
Taxtrix Cable: 80 bucks

For that investment the car will feel completely different and the most gain per $ spent. For another 500 ,on a decent find on the classifieds, you can get a TBE. You got the ability to flash your car to STG2 already for nothing.
