Talking Running without an exhaust?

ok... i just bought a 2003 WRX... and now im broke.. haha... and my friends for a good while had this Team No-Exhaust joke going on... they basically just took off there mufflers... i was wondering if this could be a cheap way to get that beautiful boxer sound out of the car.. i know it didnt hurt thier cars.. but im new to turbo.. i just figured its passed all the sensors so it wont cause a problem... anyways.. let me know what you think...

p.s. i know this is really ghetto......

Are you talking about just taking a cat back off or everything from the turbo?

That would be so F'ing loud that I can't see you making it a week before getting a ticket, and it would be a large ticket.

Leave the exhaust alone and save up for one. If cash is an issue, there are alot of people that get their exhausts off from ebay. I've seen people get a full 3" tbe and uppipe for ~$300 or so.

Deals are out there. This isn't some low-budget P.O.S. that you have, do it right bro.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...

Let me just tell you from experience it's rediculous. On my 03 when I was installing my exhaust and all I took it out with no catback on, was cool for the first 15 minutes when everybody and their mother was looking at me while I was reving the hell out of it at stop signs, lights, and other cars. The best way I could describe the sound is if you have ever heard a car with a cutout but louder that was like the difference between it with a catback and no catback. I also had the hks hi power so I like to make some noise but no catback is just too much noise.

I've heard of people drilling a small hole right before the muffler... not that I recommend such a thing. There's a reason I paid $1200 for my whole exhaust system.

I had to run out and get hardware when I installed my TBE, so I ran into town w/o the cat-back on and it was slow as hell, no torque at all and was popping like you wouldn't believe on decelleration. Overall thats a bad idea, save up and do it right. Like 9d2TSi said "this isn't some P.O.S."

I had my cat back off for a short trip down a few streets. It lost all power and got kinda choppy under 3k. Up top it felt a little more powerful, but when you slow down it cackles and when you stop you get a little overwhelmed with exhaust fumes. The sound did put a smile on my face even though it was seriously abnoxious. Gotta love the boxer engine!
