Removing Plastic BS intake

Hi guys, It's not a rex, but an EJ152 powered 2wd Bugeye wagon (fuel economy is great) I just shoved some V6 STi coupe springs in it (front std hight, but the back fell down 3/8") waiting to hear from the major Suby dismantler here in NZ about what rear swaybars he can do for me... But my question is, there's all this plastic onder the bonnet/hood, that shines up nice with a bit of silicone but has to be restricting things in a big way there's the box where your intercoolers are supposed to be ( whick could also be used as a filter but has a filter shaped gasket, and the constertina pipe that goes to the actual filter box etc.
Can I remove that BS (bull shyte) and run 3" silicone (with 2 3/4" adapters at each end) from the throttle body to the air filter behind the r/h h/light without upsetting the A/F ratio too much, or is this more of a concern fort the turbo engines that go through the revs faster than the O2 sensors can send signals to the ecu?

I've been reading on here that some CAI's can make you engines run lean, so I decised not to go too full on with the intake, but is this a good option?
