Quick RFL question (I know, sorry)

Yes I know, ANOTHER RFL question! Okay but I figured I'd put it in it's own little thread, ### it's kinda specific and well...ok lol here's the question.

I got mine in last night, and it sounds badass, but it doesn't sound exactly like the sound file.

RFL sound clip

Mine doesn't have that real high pitch sound in there. It's kinda like a lower pitched, pcchhhh. No, not pssshhhht , pppccchhhhttt, like a harder sound.

I dunno, this is probably a dumbass question, but I figured I'd ask just in case I could change the sound or something. I mean I love it, but I wanna make sure I Didn't do anything wrong.

By the way we didn't use any of the washers, and I haven't had any problems with it, either *knock on wood*, I'm just curious about the sound difference. Thanks!

*edit* Ohh by the way, it makes that high pitch noise like later into the release sometimes, like it's the pcccchhhhttt then I hear the high pitch a bit.

You should have 3 washers in there if it is stock and the high pitch comes on when you let off while boosting a lot.

I always put in 1 or 2 washers for a stock car. 4 or 5 for a heavily modifed car.

What exactly do the washers do?

They put tension on the spring, requiring more pressure before the valve opens.

A lot of people neglect to oil the piston regularly, which causes sticking and idling problems. I have 5 washers in mine, by the way...

My RFL was installed on my car when I bought it. I've looked for documentation for it, but have been unable to find any. After taking the BOV apart, I didn't see any washers ... would I be able to pick these up at a local hardware store, and if so, what size would I need? Any help would be great.

it'll cost ya $0.50, but

i think a quarter might work.... if not... you need something similar in size to a quarter.. . the washers are just there to short the inner length the that spring is compressing against... the washer is simply there to take up space and the spring presses against them.... the needs to be the just small enough to fit the inner diameter of the brass valve that moves up and down inside the blow off housing... each washer supplied is about 2mm thick (similar to a quarter in thickness and diamter, maybe the washers are a bit bigger in diameter)...

the number you have to use should truly depend on the original tension of the spring... and keep in mind also that the spring probably loses some of its tension over time as it get compressed over and over again.... but i found that no washers was so little tension that the car did not run well... yeah i have a stage 4 car so i use about 4 washers, but still... the bottom line is this... the extra washers for a stage 4 car are only there to hold addt'l boost at the top end... (when you hitting max boost)... take a look at your stock BOV, try to depress the valve once removed from your car, it has a lot of tension... the only way i got anywhere near that kind of tension with the RFL was at 3 washers and more... and you want at least the stock tension, and more if you are rnning high boost.

small amount of oil

even just engine oil will do... just add small amount drop or two and spread it around the brass valve inside the blow off housing... such that the valve can slide up and down inside the housing freely with restriction... (metal on metal likes to get stuck)... this is the same as the oil in your engine lubricating the piston against the sleeve... occasionally would certainly not need to be more than once or twice quarterly i would think.
