Prodrive stuff is WAAYYYY overpriced. Not saying it's bad stuff, but there are much cheaper ways to do the same thing. Often you can get more performance for less money.

Always take the term "street legal" very loosely... if you replace your cat, and there's nothing wrong with it, it's illegal. If you remove one, well, that's no question not legal. Yeah, it's street legal in terms of drivability on the road, but there are so many rules and laws that it really isn't.

I live in California, Los Angeles area and Prodrive has a shop here. I use a tuner site SPDusa.com alot. He is a rally and autocross driver and has many years tuning the wrx. It will pass our tough cali smog tests with those mods done.

so where do you think a better bang for my buck would be spent? Keep in mind this is a daily driver and I do live in California, the toughest smog laws, so keeping it legal is a must. By the may look at the SPD web site and his advice.

The Kit includes a Stromug 89mm rear muffler
about 400

exhaust midpipe, a freeflow catalytic converter/ down pipe,

about 500

a cat less up pipe
200

, silicone intercoller Y pipe
100-200?

and ECU upgrades
500-700

+install costs (3 hours x 60/hr?)

I do my own stuff, but what he quoted looks about right to me.. Especially for 91 octane. That SPD site is awesome by the way, thanks for the link. I'm in Glendale, I might go check them out.

Thanks I thought the pricing looked about right also. Mike is a good guy at SPD, he uses a shop in Inglewood to do the installs. I went to the prodrive shop and Wow!! They and Spd seem to know their shit!

what do you think, look how the pricing breaks down, and who has a better name than prodrive?

There are plenty of names as good or better than Prodrive. TurboXS, Perrin, APS, MRT, etc. Prodrive is more widely known because of their association with the SWRT. I'm not saying their stuff is bad. It's not. It's as good as anything out there. But, they are the Nike of the automotive world. You pay for their name.

But, looking at those parts, you aren't getting Prodrive parts. You are getting Stromung exhaust pieces. You are also getting a new intercooler hose which you don't need. 500-700 for ECU upgrades? Why the price range? Why can't they tell you an exact price? That's pretty high for a reflash even at $500.

no they do quote the price. The Kit does come with a prodrive muffler also, they are just out of them for the next 6 weeks. The price is $ 1900.00.

This is a brand new Pordrive shop for the states, they have only been open a few months so they are getting stuff in each week.

Mike at SPD tuning has been racing for many years and is a good guy.

Yep. I have talked to Ali at Easy Street many times. They make good stuff. They used to make a "ESX 740" package that was a new motor, transmission, etc. Came complete with a dyno printout that guaranteed over 740 whp. I think it was in the neighborhood of $28k....
