after test driving an 02 WRX yesterday i am pretty sure i am gonna get one. just not in automatic... i want a 5 speed in black... may have to settle for blue though. anywayyyyy... i see that the dealer adds in options that seem way overpriced... for instance, exhaust that costs 895... or the spoiler that was a $699 option . thats crazy... well there is an 02 with 28k on it for 19000. its blue, 5spd and has the spoiler. any one have any problems with their wrx at all? seems to be an amazing car. thats saying a lot coming from me when i would not be caught dead in an import, especially a subaru. i know i would not be doing much racing with it after i totaled my cobra a couple weeks ago. but when i wanan make it fast, and i know i will want to... how much will i have to spend to be a threat to other cars. im used to beating vettes, camaros, other mustangs, 3000 GTs, etc. i looked at the list of performance mods but it doesnt tell me results from them. i would like to run 13.0 or lower. what kinda power does a wrx need to go that fast. how much do u think it'd cost to get there? can i do it with the stock turbo and reliably? dont wanna hurt the engine or transmission at all. do i really just need boost controller, intake, and exhaust? what kinda power would it make after those mods?
fast or not.. still like the car a lot though. prob wont do any mods for the first year i own it. just wanna know the potential and what it would cost. thanks a lot. hopefully i'll own one within the next few weeks. !Thumbs Up
2. Don't get the the factory upgraded exhaust. It's to expensive. Click here for other options. Please note that these are just cat-back systems like the factory upgrade.
3. Things to look out for - Chipping teeth on the tranny at high HP like +350 (crank). Many people complain about the Stock tires, but I have not had any problems. I think everyone agrees that the upgraded stereo is crap. The speaker play a very flat sound and the subwoofer doesn't play much under 150hz.
4. Click here for tons of links for Professional tuners, other forums, and Performance Parts Resellers.
5. If you want to run in the 12 sec range it is really not to hard but you'll probably have to change turbos. There are a couple of people hitting very, very low 13's with the stock turbo.
6. Vishnu Tuning has a "stage" for $2495 (300-310hp) that will allow to touch the high 12's. For $4395 (340-350hp) you can hit mid 12's.
7. TurboXS has 2 stages that will be of interest to you. One is for 309hp ($2099) and the other is for 368hp ($4026)
8. For horsepower most all of us agree that the Uppipe and turbo-back exhaust is most important. You do not get much of anything from an after market intake because the stock is so good. You'll have to re-tune your ECU to take full advantage of any change you make. Both Vishnu and TurboXS do this. Flashing your factory ECU is preferred. After you upgrade the exhaust the next step would be bigger turbo and inter-cooler.
All horsepower listed above is crank HP not wheel HP. Hope this helps.
manual boost controllers are like 75 bucks but the electronic one (around 300-500) are worth the money
