power change with a fmic

my friend and i just bolted a vf34 turbo on my scooby yeserday. we drove around town for awhile trying to find races, and tested out the newly added turbo's power with just the stock tmic, it pulled nicely i might add. i have a aps 500 fmic coming in the mail, and i was just wondering what kind of power increase i should expect with the fmic opposed to the stock tmic. if anyone has been through the same thing or has heard of someone doing the same upgrades (it doesn't nessecarily have to be with an aps fmic), please post a reply.

thanks
-Tim

Cosmo has a similar setup I think. I'm sure he'll reply for you soon.

I have the VF 23 turbo with a Greddy front mount kit wich is not quite the size of the APS but still kind of the same in a way. But you will feel a big diffrence as long as the car is tuned good just so its not so laggy.... It will still have mroe lag than a top mount but its worth having cold air always going in rather than only when your going like 80. So yea its gonna be really nice. Mine is pretty laggy but it pulls real good in third and fourth now I just had got it tuned friday night and its awasome now in the highway!!!!!!!

Can anyone tell me exact figures with a VF34 with an APS or similar topmount vs. an APS or similar frontmount? I know the FMIC will push more boost, but exactly how much? Any info at all would be helpful.

You won't feel any difference in power with a bigger intercooler. You can raise the boost higher, which will give you more power. But, how much depends on too many variables to list here.

I can't tell you exact figures. With a tune you should expect right in the neighborhood of 300 whp.

Just bolting it on won't make much difference, but if you tune for it, you can probably get some more HP out of it.

you've got to feel some power difference i imagine

you'r going for a restrictive stock top mount that flows poorly (at least compared to a good aftermarket top or front mount) and does not cool as well).. the cooling is an 'aside'... as it will allow you to run more boost and that will require tuning to net more power from the car.... however, you may actually notice an immediate difference simply for the flow change... if your new intercooler is more effective at combating pressure drop, you could net more boost into the manifold and therefore the car will feel more powerful... of course, you're also going from a short travel path of boost to a longer travel path and of course, that long that path gets the more trouble you have combating pressure drop... so as you can see, its far from an exact science, but anyways, you should be able to tune some higher boost levels with the front mount, i would recommend nothing higher than 18 psi.... in my opinion, approaching 20psi is insanity on pump gas, anything higher requires better gas quality/octane grade or magic Cosmo boost (who runs 22 psi on pump gas regularly, reportedly with no issues)... i've not been able to replicate his results w/out knock.

Altitude, humidity, temperature, and pressure all make a difference.
