ok so i bought a buschur 3'' catback from another forum and im not even sure if it is real. I put it on and it just doesnt sound right. It sounds like where the bolts hook up that air is getting out and it is really really loud, and not a good loud. Should there be a gasket in between because there is definitely air getting out?
there should be a gasket between the cat back and the mid pipe. If there is not, that is probably your problem. Did the catback not come with new gaskets?
no there is no gasket there is about a half inch of space that i can see the bolt between the catback and where im bolting it on. Oh and is that what the piece is called where i hook the catback up to...the midpipe?
Do you have the stock midpipe? If so, is the cat back a "flat" style flange? It didn't bolt up perfectly did it?
I have a similar set up, except mine is the stock catback, with a flat flange DP (read helix). Now, my leaked at first, until I got some gasket maker from autozone, and cut out about a 1/4" worth of gasket material to seal the two pipes. No leakie in 1.5 years.
To cut the gaskets it's easiest to buy a metal gasket that is made to mate a 3" exhaust at that point, use that as your template and cut away.
yeah it doesnt bolt up correctly...i just called autozone and they said they have something that kind of wraps up the whole like a cast... is that what youre talking about?
no don't get that. What i'm talking about is flat, gasket cutout material. It's used for situations where gaskets aren't made. It's just a cheap way to do it. You could always buy the metal gaskets that's meant to join those two pipes, but you'd probably need like 4-5 of them, this way is just cheaper that's all.
what is happening is where it bolts up (the midpipe?)... one bolt closed all the way but the other doesnt and that is the reason that air is getting out. Do you think that a gasket would fix this problem. It looks like the catback isnt going directly on and that it is bolting on with a little angle. That is why only one bolt is correctly on. am i being clear with what my proble is?
i dont know i dont think there is any kind of gasket. I connected to catback to what it bolts up to. There is a big space about half an inch between the catback and what it bolts up to and there in nothing in between except the bolt. The car sounds horrible too. Is this my problem that i dont have that gasket?
no I left that gasket out. But on mine both bolts when it tight, but there was gap because I was lining up a 3" downpipe to a 2.25" pipe. If we're both on the same page a bunch of gasket material stacked up should solve your prob.
how much would gasket material cost and where would i go get it? I was thinking about bringing it to meineke and letting them do what they do. You think thats a good idea I;m going to take a pic and post it. Ill brb. thanks for your help
