Idemitsu 5w-30

And i don't drive my scoob much (its a 2002 and I just turned 23,000 miles) so I only end up changing it maybe once or twice a year.

shouldn't you change it every 3000 miles OR 3 months?

correct me if I am wrong but aren't you supposed to wait till your car has over 10,000 miles before you switch to fully synthetic oil? The reason behind this is that you want wear patterns inside your engine before switching.

what is the oil that subaru uses when you take it into get serviced?

No you don't have to wait till 10,000 miles sooner the better. You can switch over at your first oil change, you should be well broken in by then.

My turbo's fixed and a lot better =)

I was told to wait till at least 10,000 miles before switching to synthetic because you want good wear patterns in the engine. My source was a graduate from wyo tech! I just want to make sure I do the right thing... can you find me a source for your claim, or can someone else verify this please.

The reason I am so concerned is that I am coming up on my first oil change and want to do the right thing.

thanks for your help

I don't have any proff, but your not going to harm anything by useing synthetic. The whole point behind synthetic is to protect the motor from wear and the oil doesn't break down like regular oil. Don't forget a lot of cars come from the factory with synthetic already. A lot of us switched to synthetic on the first or second oil change. It's up to you

Not according to Subaru. If you drive it very hard or lots of stop and go traffic, probably, but other than that it's 6 months/7500 miles.

Subaru actually says 3750 miles in the manual. I do every 3k. I know I don't need to and could extend it to 7k, but this absolutely ensures that if I have problems down the road, it's not from bad oil or lack of since it gets changed so often. Oil is cheap; fixing a WRX is not.
