Next step-up from TD04?
Was thinking about stepping up from TD04 but nothing major that would make me buy a bunch of other parts. One that would be work with AP.

VF series or a 16G. You could use those along with a pump and injectors would give major improvements over what your use to now. I believe they have maps for the AP for them as well. Oooorrrr you could go the route I went. Build a 2.34L with a 20g and just skip all the mamby pamby stuff...haha

Subscribed. Thinking of doing the same thing, but trying to find the best route to go. Still my daily driver, so I don't want it to be unreliable beyond belief. Something just a little faster/fun.

My motor is just as reliable as any other. Yeah I beat on it, but it hasn't given me any real issues other than crappy gas mileage, but that's to be expected. Again if your wanting to step up go with a 16g and supporting mods and you'll be very happy.

With a 16G turbo, fuel pump and injectors, will an AP work with it, or do I have get a pro tune or someone with openecu to give me a tune? I guess that's where I'm lost, what kind of EM do I need to get.

psinuse 08-24-2011 09:13 PM

I'm pretty sure they have a map for a 16g with pinks and a pump for the AP if you wanna go that route. I have a 16g base map for use with a opensource EM.

bfodle 08-24-2011 09:15 PM

Did you purchase the map for opensource from someone, or tune it yourself?

turmic 08-24-2011 09:19 PM

A protune or someone that knows a extensive deal about opensource to tune your car. The Cobb Map...the last time I heard was for the old FP Big 16G which would be pretty hard to get a hold of. All the newer models of most BIG 16Gs will out flow the map no matter who makes the Big 16G.

Good info. Sorry to hijack the thread, but it's still useful info for you. I know a few people around here that tune using opensource and are pretty good at it. I've been data logging for awhile, but I don't know enough about it to tune it myself.

16G plus Sti pink or 06+ Wrx injectors.
Be smart and get a custom tune.

bfodle 08-24-2011 10:46 PM

Already have the injectors (off an 07 STi) and fuel pump is on it's way. Still looking at turbo's and looking around about tuning. Thanks for the great info. Really appreciated.

Thought I just saw an evo3 16g not too long ago... now I can't locate it....

Here is a "comparable" one :

There is also the 19T compressor upgrade in your current turbo housing option. That also requires injectors at the very least.

I thought the STI injectors were side feed and the WRX injectors were top feed? And I thought the 06/07 WRX injectors actually outflowed the STI ones? I was emailing deatschwerks about it when I was looking at injectors, and I believe thats what they told me. Someone please correct me if Im wrong or misinformed.

psinuse 08-26-2011 05:10 AM

04-05 I believe were side feed on the sti. I think once they switched to the 2.5 in the wrx is when they started putting top feeds in both.
