need some help with my vf39 hybrid setup please

hey guys sorry if this is a repost, ive been searching forever and havent found the right answer yet.
anyway, here is my situation.
i just installed a vf39 on my 02 wrx hybrid, and i had a real hard time with the intercooler because it wouldnt line up right. im using the stock wrx intercooler for now until i get a larger tmic.
my question is, is the problem im having due to the y-pipe? i've read lots of threads about mounting sti intercoolers on wrx's and having the fitment issue where the brackets dont line up. but my intercooler to throttle body connection is where i seem to be having the problem. is this due to the ypipe not being long enough?
im confused because i've read that the samco hose should work on wrx's, but would need to be modified to work on stis, why would they need to be extended for the sti?
it is also to my understanding that the vf39 does situate slightly differently than the td04 but its hard to tell.
if someone could help me out it would be much appreciated.

thanks.

supposedly it requires a bit of "wiggling". I have an 02 with an STI (previous owner's doing) tmic and it is a little tricky to get back together. It should fit, you just need to play with it a bit.

These are PIA to get back together.
The two turbo are close to being in same position once mounted.
The STI intercooler is larger than the WRX, this why you have to be extended for the STI.
Try putting the connector on the TB and wiggle the IC into it. Start at the bottom and work up, you might need to use a small screwdriver to help pry the connector on. Also make sure the connector is warm, this help it stretch.

right, but I'm not using an sti tmic, I'm using my wrx tmic. They have different ypipe designs so I'm wondering if that is where my problem is. Anyone?

I also tried that method and I tried to put it on the turbo first, either way it's still not right. The intercooler wants to sit to the right of the throttle body.
Would a Perrin or samco hose give me the length I need?

I was able to use the WRX IC with the stock connectors after my VF30 install. It was a bitch to get on and line up, but it did.
I can't say if a different hose would be better or not.

Try this place if you decide to go w/another hose:

Silicone Hose, Silicone Hoses, Turbo Hose, Turbo Hoses, Intercooler Hose, Intercooler Hoses, T-bolt Clamps

BTW... Yu should REALLY get a STi TMIC or equivelent... You will heatsoak bad.

hey oldfart, did you intercooler go on like it did on the td04? i have it on right now its just crooked, it doesnt go onto the turbo or the throttle body fully. i had to pretty much force it into the position it is now and ram the clamps tight.

anybody else have any idea?

Is it the elbow hose that connects to the turbo that is creating the issue ?

thats kind of what i think, because of my ypipe design vs the design of the sti ypipe. but the thing im not sure about is some places say that for sti application, you need to extend the elbow. samco even makes a longer elbow for that reason. but i dont have an sti ypipe. the designs are totally different.
does that mean:
1. you need the longer elbow for sti intercoolers to work on wrx's like mine?
2. you need the longer elbow/different ypipe design to make wrx intercoolers work with sti turbos on wrx's like mine.
AND
3. you need the longer elbow/different ypipe design for aftermarket tmic like the ssac style or ebay styles ( the big ones, this is the style intercooler that i want to use.), for my setup, the vf39 on a wrx, where my intercooler doesnt fit right.

and, if i go about getting a different ypipe and intercooler, do i buy one listed for STi's, or WRX?

hellllppppp.
thanks
