Mishimoto aluminum radiator hose install

Has anybody installed this yet, because I've got some questions on the install. I already have the mishimoto radiator installed and the upper radiator pipe doesn't exactly match up. I'm assuming that's what the couplers and bolt clamps are for. Should radiator fluid be running through the couplers, or does the fit have to be perfect?



I installed the aluminum hose and found out that Mishimoto sends 1.5 OD t-bolt clamps with the kit and they are way too small! 2.0 OD clamps are on there way but the ghetto ones will have to do for now. While I was at it I wrapped the downpipe and turbo. I also bought a Grimmspeed heat shield and quickly found out that ever since the downpipe was upgraded years ago, the heat shield brackets are MIA. Does anybody know if there are one or two brackets and where they were placed? Right now I have none.

If the couplers are 5 ply it should be ok. It's the flimsy 3-4plys that I would question.

You sure you rec'd the correct hose kit from Mishimoto?

The upper aluminum pipe will make it pretty tough to burp your coolant system. It is common to gently squeeze the top radiator hose to help relieve any air bubbles which may be trapped in the upper part of the system.

Thanks for the replys guys. I ended up calling Mishimoto and they said that the aluminum pipe should not contact any metal, that's what the couplers and clamps are for. Radiator fluid does run through and contact them. I'm not sure if they are 3/4/5 ply though...just going to roll with it. The t-bolt clamps are going to be a bitch! You guys want me to post some pics after the install?

look at the couplers and count the layers. Pics are always sweet.

As John said, I'd probably get a samco set or another radiator hose set so you can burp the system correctly.

I have a kit like this on the Evo and it's slowly leaking from coupler on the radiator side. I also noticed that the couplers mushroom pretty quickly. Went back to stock immediately. Do not see the overall benefit in these.

Way less messy and gets the job done. I have used it on all my vehicles.

Squeezing your top hose is free.99 and I didn't spill a drop of coolant. The key is a gentle squeeze.

Those fancy pluggable coolant funnels are the jam... but I still squeeze my hose.

Another hose squeezer here. Even do it when I'm working on my wife's box. Econo-box. It's a Corolla.

Mishimoto sent me 1.5OD t bolt clamps, which are way too small! I can't even get a thread started while using pliers. They are sending me free replacement t bolt clamps, 2.0 OD, and new couplers. Right now I'm using the ghetto clamps from pepboys on the upper radiator pipe. Since I can't squeeze the upper pipe to relieve trapped air in the radiator, is there some kind of kit or tool I can buy to do this? It's fine now, b/c I've been slowly letting the car get up to temp, then letting it cool and opening up the cap to let the air escape. I've had to do this cycle 4 times now, and finally all the air is out!
