Not to scare you away, but at that power level a transmission build will be needed eventually, trust me on that one. First thing tho would be to read up on Engine Management and decide what would be best for you, or where you are located (i.e what tuners are available and all). Then one of the best and easiest mods is a Down pipe with a stage 2 flash/tune. Usually any modding after this requires a little more of a custom map per your cars needs.

That's the guide I used when I first started. Granted somethings are slightly out of date, but it isn't the worst guide I've ever seen.

OP congrats on the getting the car and the desire that is modding a Subaru. Just a few questions first and foremost.
1) Is this car mechanically sound? i.e. Plugs, trans, fluids compression test, brakes things of that nature. These are things that should be done prior to any type of modding. Trust me on that one you don't want to start upping the boost only to have low compression in a cylinder keeping you from making good power, or a bad plug that will cause you a misfire and or damage to the engine.

2)Are you looking to make 350-400hp at the crank or at the wheel? Big difference.

As far as doing things in stages that is a smart move as you can get the feel for how the car reacts to different mods. I might recommend saving some money aside as a slush fund for unforeseen issues you may encounter. Another big trust me, there are several people on here that can tell you this.

It's the worst I've ever seen. Pretty much every subtopic is either COMPLETELY wrong or misleading. It would take a longer post than that one to tell why it's so bad.

But it's all good, he put a disclaimer saying he's not responsible for damages due to improper modding.

Silly legal stuff...lol

I suppose you could write an updated version or even see if the mods would let you revamp that one...For the record I'm not trying to soound like an asshat here...

Sorry for posting it, I didn't know it was the WORST guide EVER written, I personally haven't read every guide ever written.

Anyway, I guess it says something about the quality of the information on this forum. I found that from a post by Ludachris, the board's "Founder."

What mods should be done first? In what order?
