At least ONE cat!? good idea?

well ok, im guna soon buy a d/p and u/p and a catback, im just wondering. im hearing that being totaly catless SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS AHAHA, anyways, im guna go with a greddy evo 2 catback a helix downpipe (long) with a cat(HI flow cat) and an uppipe no cat. so in total i will only have one cat in the whole system, and that cat will be a hi flow one, do you think this is ok? gotta have at least some 1 cat in there no? and beacuse i have only one hi flow cat in the whole system, do u think its guna smell like eggs, suflfer or shoot flams lol? let me know what u guys think, u have more experience than me.

im looking at doing the exact same set-up only with a COBB catted DP. i dont like the close proximity of the cat to the turbo in the Helix DP

Why would it matter where the cat is in the downpipe? I'm not trying to argue, just wondering

The closer it is, the more 'turbulance' there is, not ideal for max power (only speculation, nothing I've seen where someone has really tried to prove it). However, the closer the cat is to the turbo, the hotter the cat gets, which makes it more effecient in cleaning your exhaust. The cat needs a lot of heat in order to work properly and effeciently, which is also why they have heatshields on them. Helps heat them up faster.

I am running catless and the only smell I get is the smell of unburnt fuel. Reminds me of a 2 stroke smell.

yea, its to reduce turbulance that are present at the outlet of the turbo. it seems to me that as the gasses leave the turbo and travel down the DP the flow will smooth out and pass through the cat easier.

also "light off" or the temp at which a cat begins to reduce emissions begins about 15 seconds after starting a COLD engine. the fact that the cat is 24" or so further down stream should have very little effect on its ability to clean the exhaust gasses.

I've got the Cobb DP with the high-flow cat, other 2 cats are gone. No smell, great sound & performance

why bother with the cat. your still polluting even with a high flow. doesn't do anythoing but quiet the tone down a little. but with a greddy evo 2 system i would certainly go catless. you will be glad you did.

I find it amusing that people buy the single cat and feel better about themselves. It's still illegal and still pollutes. If you're going to break the law, might as well go catless

1+!

although if caught you have a better chance of getting away with it by having one cat not saying its a good chance haha.

yea, but thats why i wanted to get the evo 2 for the reason because its quiet but still has a low deep tone at WOT, plus im sure the cabin noise must insain with no cats at all! i mean i had a loud exhaust when i had my integra, but i duno, i want just what to be able to hold a convo with someone else with out yelling so the other person hears whats im saying ahahah
