Larger TMIC and hood scoop?

I the STi hood scoop needed for an upgraded TMIC? Say the Turbonetics? I know it will increase flow and surface area, etc. but I don't want that monster scoop if I don't need it. Are there clearance issues with the scoop as it is? What about an aftermarket BOV on the larger IC? If clearance issues do exist are there any aftermarket top mounts (not STi) that will work with the OEM scoop? Thanks everyone who replies.

There aren't any clearance issues, just decreased airflow. In fact, if I had to choose between a bigger IC and a larger scoop, I'd choose the scoop.

Does the need for a larger scoop apply to an 04, which already has a fairly large one to begin with, or only the earlier models with the smaller scoops?

the 04 scoop isn't any bigger, just uglier and more snorkel looking. I have the sti scoop on my 03 and it looks way better. It's not huge, it's only an inch taller.

The 04 scoop is bigger than the 02-03s. And the 04 STi scoop is bigger than the 04 WRX one.

No, the scoops are a lot different. Someone was saying that a company makes the '04 style scoop for the 02-03s but I'm not sure if it's true or not. I would believe it though because I found a civic cf hood with an '04 style scoop on it on ebay (that was just wrong in so many ways). Does anyone know who makes the '04 style for the 02-03s, maybe JDM?

04 STi Scoops are available for 02 03 hoods. Whether they look good or not is up to you. I Have seen them available @ http://www.xcceleration.com/

Available in CF also if you like that kind of thing

I knew I saw it before. They don't have a pic though just a close up. I agree I think it would look bad.

I personally like the 04 STi hood scoop better than the regular WRX scoop. It just looks meaner. I've also noticed a lot of tunner companies putting a FMIC on with a hood scoop. Wouldn't it make more sence if they replaced the stock hood with one that has a reverse flow scoop in it? Cause if you have a fmic whats the point of a hood scoop other than looks?
