K&N and your ECU.

Just a couple of quick questions.

From what I've read and heard about our cars, I'm under the impression that the ECU "learns" certain things. Is this true?

Secondly, lately I've been noticing black sooty/wet stuff coming from my exhaust at idle. When I was tuning my Talon I ran into this and it was basically that I had way too much fuel that was not being burnt and it was just spraying all over the place.

This is where the short ram question comes in, is it (short ram) causing the ECU to dump more fuel due to maf readings, creating the rich condition that I described?

Sorry for the dumb ones fellas, I have an idea what's happening, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for any help.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...

Check your MAF sensor, see if it is dirty or oily. If so clean it off and see what happens...

a. yes there are certain mods your ECU will "learn" around.

2. you're not going to diagnose whether you're running lean or rich by looking at drippings of your tailpipe. It's not uncommon for soot to accumulate at your tailpipe, and i know i get some condensation from time to time so that within itself doens't tell you a whole lot. (my car is professionaly tuned and my AFR's are spot on BTW with the stock air box).

c. The only thing that intake is doing for your car is ingesting more dirt.

hope this helps!
