I assume you are talking about the Crinkle red one that is short ram? I love it and love the reviews. As soon as I can get $225, that will probably be my next mod. Then dyno tune time .

Well, yeh, but there are three K&N Intakes:
1) The red crinkle one that you're talking about
2) The short ram Typhoon intake
3) The Cold Air Typhoon intake
I assume im going to run into the MAF situation if i got #3, if not lemme know. But between the Typhoon intake and the red crinkle intake which do you think is better? You think I'll see any power gains with any of them?

I'm not so sure that I agree with that...the Short Ram has a "U" shape to it whereas the Red Crinkle is more of an "I" shape...check em out
http://www.performancecenter.com/pro...+WRX/sf4_2.0l/
Theres defly two different short rams...

The typhoon one you are talking about is or #2 on their site is an old one, or not for the WRX. The crinkle red one will work on the WRX. I am talking about the crinkle red one, and you should see a power increase from it.

that may just be a picture, because how in the hell can you get a U bend in the intake for a WRX? there just isn't any room. also there is no point in the U.

silver:

wrinkle red:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...rod=69-8001TWR

there are no other Thyphoon short rams listed. the desciption in the link you have is either "Silver" or "Wrinkle Red"

The K&N comes with a heatshield where the AEM doesn't. The AEM one is nice too though. As for performance and sound, they are similar.

Both are nice, but I ordered the K&N over the AEM.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...

Update.

Well guys, I just got done installing this piece. My initial impression is that it's a very well engineered unit. The fit and finish are excellent, it sounds great ( I love the sound of my new turbo, oh yeah that's right, I couldn't hear it before. !Laugh! ) as far as performance goes, it's not a significant increase, but it is noticable. I would recommend it. It's everything that I've come to expect from K&N. Very nice intake.

That's the good, now on to the bad.

There are only a few little things that I didn't care for. They give you everything you need to install this, except for the allen wrench for the maf screws (they include some sweet set screws for this), they give you a wrench for the t-bolt clamps that are included in the kit though. On to the next thing, your cover that goes over the EGT plug and the other plugs in front of the strut tower has to be removed and modified if you plan on reinstalling it (the heatshield is in the way). I chose not to, yet. If you plan on going to a fmic, you might have a problem with your uicp. These are the only bad things about this intake, other than that I would say get it.

Here are a couple of pics of the finished product.

I got it from www.extremepsi.com , it was $245 shipped. I'm sure that you could find a better price than what I paid for mine though. I've had really good luck with those guys and I like to help out the good vendors. Their shipping is pretty quick too. I usually get my orders in 3 days.
