ID this turbosmart bpv/bov for me!

Hey all!
I was hanging out and helping my buddy out with his civic and our buddy's PA system last night and he handed me something. Low and behold he handed me a turbosmart bpv or bov. He tells me that it's for a Subaru but it came off his project starion that he is starting. He put his hks on the starion from when his civic was turbo'd and he didn't have a use for the turbosmart so he gave it to me. First off, can you all help me identify it? Here's a picture.



Second off, if it will fit and work on my setup, is there any benefit to putting it on? The car is 100% bone stock and it will be recirculated as well if possible. If I can put it to use, I'd like to throw it on. Also, need a tune for it or no? Thanks for your help guys! I appreciate it!

You wont get an ounce of performance from putting it on, regardless of runnning it recric or not. As far as it being turbosmart or not, can be certain on that.

It's turbosmart. I know it is for sure. I was wondering what model it is. And if there is no benefits of installing one? Glad I got it for free. So just a sound mod pretty much?

You would get the same sound and no worries by putting in a high flow panel filter, and removing the silencer/snorkus from your fender well of your car. But I guess like you said the BPV/BOV was free.

Well I was asking for the sole fact that I know many people put them on and got it for free and was wondering if there was any benefit. I'm thinking it's a dual port. I'll hook it up anyways. Can't argue free for something pointless that might be cool if I ever vent it.

Right, alot put them on, then the smart ones take it off because of the issues or headaches that follow shortly after installing them. Most cars around dont need them, except for the "wow" factor. I just recently put my Cobb XLE BOV back to full recirc, and I can still hear it go off and its annoying amongst the other noises my car makes. But I know that everyone likes something different. I hope it suits your taste well and you enjoy it.

Yea, it will be recirculated until/if I ever get around to going blow through and have it tuned that way.

Dont want to step on anyone's toes but I have read and have been told that BOV do not have a significant power enhancement but it does help with keeping boost pressure when advancing into the next gear.

That is not the same BPV/BOV that the OP has a question about and your link isn't correct.

Yes I agree it could be seen as a marketing tool. But I was talking to the individual who tested it and was notified he also tested other BOV's. COBB was one of them that had the same results of keeping the pressure a little better.

I have noticed that my BPV is a little "long winded" and is open for a longer duration than what I believe what it should do (Probably due to a worn out spring). So putting a better BPV/BOV with stronger spring will allow for faster results of pressure input regardless of what brand.

So yes the blog is not part specific for the OP but makes you observe about how different products work on vehicles.

So essentially it will help spool a little bit. I didnt pay anything for it, so I was just wondering if there was any benefit. A little bit stiffer spring that holds boost in the lower rpms and better response between shifts is good enough for me. Probably be putting it on here in the coming weeks. I'll post up and let you all know what my feelings are on it afterwards.

No, it will hurt spool. With the stock valve air is recirculated back into the turbo inlet and helps keep the turbo spinning between shifts. If you vent that air with a blow off valve you lose that benefit.

Sell it.
