How hard is it to do a compression test?

I have a 03 WRX and debating whether I should do a compression test myself or take it to the dealer to do it. How hard is it to do the compression test? Is it easier to get to the spark plugs from underneath?

It's a bit easier to get to if you take the wheel well liners out, but generally you can get to them pretty easy just from the sides... Make sure the engine is warm when you do it or you'll get bad #'s. Probably the worst part is just working on a hot engine.

Meh just take the airbox out on the passenger side and the wash bottle out on the drivers side...Makes it a bunch easier...

What he says!

Its not any harder than changing your spark plugs. I would rate it a 5 difficulty on a scale of 1-10.

Oh...so that's the secret! I tried looking before and couldn't find the spark plugs. So that's where it's hiding! Thanks, I'll go look again. Thanks!!

Yeah the dealer charges $186 to do a plug change, if you supply the plugs otherwise it's $250 or so...
