How About This Setup

Hi Everyone,

I am seriously considering a WRX and substantial mods would not be far behind. My main concerns are:

1) Quiet as possible
2) not having to upgrade transmission or clutch.
3) Maintain everyday driveability and reliability.

Here is what I have put together in my head given what I have learned from this website so far, as I like to be well prepared/educated before I do anything:

IHI VF34 Turbo
TurboXS Turbo Back Exhaust, but with a borla hush muffler (is this possible?)
Perrin Intake (not cold air intake)
TurboXS Up pipe (has a flex section)
STI Injectors, 650cc
Proper dyno tune

Also, I realize i will need some sort of engine management - what is a good value in this department? (can i just get an ECU flash or do i need a new one?)

Do I need an upgraded Intercooler?

So what do you think guys? anything you would change or anything that would have to be added due to necessity?(i.e. I would have to ad it as to not hurt my car given the mods)

Oh, also, I live in Canada and emissions is a non-issue.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance for your time,

Mark

I would suggest utec or StreetTuner for Engine managment. I am new to all of this, but one of the 2 is what I would go eith sice you are getting it dynoed.

The Perrin intake is probably not needed if you are refering to a short ram intake. You might want to look into a Helix uppipe(flex as well) because the inside diameter is larger then stock(for a larger turbo). As for the engine management, the UTEC comes highly recommended by lots of people.

You can't run a Borla muffler with the TXS exhaust. The flanges are in different places. However, the Stromung muffler and Prodrive muffler will work.

You need an upgraded intercooler to run a larger turbo.

And you CANNOT run larger injectors on the stock engine management or fuel pump.

Yeah you need a new fuel pump. Ditch the Perrin intake.

I thought the VF34 was a direct bolt on, therefore wouldn't the diameters be the same and I would not require the new up-pipe?

Ok, so No perrin intake - Just use the stock one then? or would I get a different short ram intake?

Also, Cosmo, are those other 2 mufflers you suggested quiet? I was only attracted to the borla hush muffler for its reputation of being quiet.

And i need to ad a larger fuel pump and better intercooler - cool, but way more expensive now.

What is a good intercooler to run with the IHI VF34 keeping cost in mind?

Thankyou very much for your input, you are all helping me greatly.

Any TMIC would probably be good, but if you want FMIC, go APS.

The exhaust inlet is larger than the stock TD04 and that is why the Helix uppipe will give you optimal performance with an aftermarket turbo.
