I live in a small town in Oklahoma and the roads are not the greatest. I plan on purchasing a HKS carbon Ti catback, but before I do, I would like to know how low it hangs and if I need to think about getting a different exhaust.
I am basically interested in a.) stock hangers vs. Kartboy extra long hangers b.) if stock hangers are used, is the exhaust to close to the bumper cover, causing it to melt c.) if the long hangers are used will I drag the exhaust when I enter my steep drive wayand hit it whiledriving rough roads?
I do not plan on lowering it but do plan on getting 18s eventually.
I have 18's, and the HKS exhaust clears pretty well. I live in MI and we have pretty bad roads out here. There is no real issue with melting the bumper or anything else of that sort. I'm using the stock hangers. I've had it about seven months and have had no problems.
i ended up getting the Carbon TI exhaust and was installing it yesterday and ran into a slight problem, and i was wondering if anyone one else knew of this problem or had it themselves. The problem was where the exhaust connects to the stock mid-pipe by the cat. (i dont have a downpipe yet, will be getting one soon). It was just EXTREMELY difficult to bolt the HKS and stock exhaust together. The problem was that at the end of the stock midpipe's flange(again, directly after the stock cat), there is a circular region that extends(where normally this would fit inside the stock cat back section). Anyways it did not seem to fit like it should into the HKS cat back section, the force i was putting to close the two together actually stripped a bolt's threads, so that definately cant be correct. I eventually got it on using some drastic measures, but I wanted to know if anyone knew anything about that section. I have a 2005 wrx.
On a side note, after finally rigging it on, it sounds absolutely amazing. It has a very deep sound and does not hang really low or anything like that, I love it.
The sound is the BEST, i love it. I didnt connect it with the stock, heck I didnt connect it together, the tuner shop I go to did. I also had a Helix DP at the time, then upgraded to a Perrin. This should be your next step to go with for sure. If your not experiencing any exhaust leak or noticing any other problems you should be ok. You should go for a DP soon though, the gains and sound are even better, good choice.
Thanks for the replies, I also plan on getting the helix up/down pipe combo from gruppe-s when I order my exhaust. Is the Hiper non carbon the same thing just sans the carbon fiber?
I put my hks cat back on before i got my downpipe. I think the circular thing sticking out on your stock pipe is the crush donut ring that seals the 2 stock flanges together, my 03 had one. It was a separate piece that just came right off but the new flange and the stock flange would not touch without taking it off.
