Yeah, ACE probably.

Read here, I can't get on it from work: wrx - Can header / exhaust insulation replace metal heat shields? - Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - Stack Exchange...

You have a grinder? Sawzall.... Dynamite... haha.... They are a PITA

Just remember if you cut em or whatever, you wont be able to reinstall them without welding or similar.

Why are you wanting to take the manifold off? You doing your UP?

after looking around i found the correct way of taking off the 02 sensor to remove the heat shield without cutting it off! basicly i would take the passenger side wheel liner off and theres a hole to the 02 sensor thats on the side of the ex manifold. should have enough room to use a 02 long socket and take it off. hope this helps anyone that was stuck like i was

Or just unplug the O2 and pull the whole manifold off. If you were doing the up and down pipe anyways it's easier to pull the whole thing off to pull the up pipe out the bottom with the manifold off the car.

i cant get to the passenger side manifold bolts because the heat shield is in the way and to take that off i have no choice but to take the 02 sensor out

when I did my up, I cut the piss out of it with snips, took me about an hour of swearing and acting like a little baby under my car until I got it. I only took off the up and re-installed the up. Had to jack the engine up just a tad to re-install as well

The heat shield is bolted on... You're saying those bolts won't budge?

The shield is two halves, one you can't take off without the manifold being off. The bottom one can be taken off with a few bolts, and the O2 sensor comes off easy enough before you take the shield off. As long as you take that bottom shield off the manifold bolts are all accessible to remove it. Just buy a 22mm wrench and you'll be able to get the sensor off.

Try Pb blaster before you go hacking up the heat shield, it's there for a good reason. I've taken the shield off solid rust 12 year old manifolds with no issues after a good soaking of pb blaster.

Cant vouch for anyone else but my bolts all rusted to crap, got a few out but the rest were game for the tin snips.
