This has been talked about before. But no, you won't notice any ill effects, although you won't be getting the most out of your IC. Most of the guys here including myself leave it off.

It won't hurt anything. It is there for one purpose - safety. To make sure nobody opens the hood and sticks their hand on a stock turbo. It has no effect on the intercooler, underhood temperatures, or anything else.

oh my. So you guys are suggesting that having a heat shield over your DP doesn't help keep heat out of your IC? I would beg to differ. I wouldn't use the stock one though, i would get an aftermarket. Cusco makes a nice looking one, I have a speedmonkee. I like the cusco because it extends even farther than the SM closer to the firewall. I also have my turbo wrapped with thermotec heat wrap, and the first half of my downpipe wrapped (the part that's in the engine bay). This has DRAMATICALLY helped reduce heatsoak. With nothing there my IC would heat soak in the matter of minutes sitting still. Now i can let my car idle for over ten minutes, and my heat shield is still able to be touched, let alone my IC.

I say invest in some aftermarket heat sheilds, a cool intercooler is a happy intercooler. Keep the heat where it belongs, in the exhaust.

I don't think that they are saying that there is going to be no heatsoak to the IC, but rather that after you start moving and the IC has some airflow, that it will be back to normal temperature quickly. I have no heatshields and no heat wrap on my car and I have noticed no differences.

I have no heat shields either and I only really notice a difference if I'm sitting idle for a while. For instance in traffic. But other than that, no big differences. I say if it'll give you peace of mind, go get an aftermarket heatshield. I would've but I've been lazy lol.

Yea I'm to lazy to put the heat shield back on or buy a new one also, hell, I'm to lazy to even get the CEL fix. I've been driving around with that yellow beam in my face for 3 weeks.

I got a sheet of those little dot stickers from work and painted the sheet black. Then, I plopped one of the dots over top of the light: perfect fit. If it started flashing, I could tell, but I went with the quick ghetto fix. I couldn't take it anymore!

The coming EM will take care of it, but I was getting anal about seeing that light - outta sight, outta mind.

Dammit, I wish I would've read this post 2 days ago. I just finished my turboxs turbo back install and getting the heat shield back on was the hardest part. Me and my dremel were best friends that day but that damn heat shield really did not want to go back on and I was to afraid to leave it off. Atleast I have peace of mind now because I took so much off of I really dont think the shield is even doing its job anymore. Does anyone know if the cusco heat shield for the rex will go on smooth even with the turboxs downpipe in place ?

I think most of the aftermarket heatshields take into consideration that you already have a larger aftermarket downpipe. So I think the Cusco one will fit fine with your TurboXS DP. Don't get mad at me if I'm wrong though lol.
