Exhaust question. Yes I searched.

Hey guys, I tried searching but couldnt really find a solid answer. I am on a small budget so thats why I picked this line of parts. My question is with this combination, will I experience any negative side affects in the performance, reliability, fuel mileage, or anything else with my car? Will this setup set off any codes and cause my dash to light up like a christmas tree?

2003 WRX all stock performance wise. 5sp with STI short shifter.

Looking at getting:
Helix catless DP
SR*S Ebay exhaust

Thanks for all your help guys.

You would need a tune to get the most out of your mods. Look into COBB AP, ECUTEK, OPENSOURCE. It's been discussed here many times already. The downpipe will give you the most performance wise with a tune. And a catback is just for sounds and looks.

I plan on picking up the COBB AP but before then, would there be any harm in installing the above mentioned pieces without a tune?

Also, can anyone recommend a good tuner in Colorado? I live in the southwest corner of the state where there is not a single auto tuning shop around. Only 4x4 shops around here. Thanks again guys.

Your car will be fine...You just wont notice as much gains as you would with the tune.

You wont get any check engine lights, the only thing that you might get a light with is when you upgrade your uppipe. Since your not doing that now or probably anytime to soon I woudln't worry about it.

So just to clarify, up grading the exhaust, downpipe, and removal of all cats will not cause any codes to go off and dash light to light up? I just dont have the money to have my car hooked up and codes reset right now. Thanks again for all your help. I appericate it.

you will get a check engine code for being catless. The AP will clear that code if you get it. You can do the resistor mod but it wont help you in performance.

Any info on the resistor mod? I have a vague idea as to how it works and how to do it but not to sure. Is this a safe mod to do until I can afford the AP?

I just found out about the bung extention. If I were to run the Helix catless DP and SR*S cat back, leave the rear cat and do the bung extension on the DP, would that leave me CEL free?

Sorry for the potential thread steal, but I was curious since we are talking about exhausts, I have the cobb exhaust and recently fell in love with the greddy exhaust that has the blue tip was wondering a friend of mine said his buddy had a evo with a hks exhaust and he just burned the tip with a lighter and it looked exactly same is it possible to do that? sounds a bit far fetched..

just FYI, i have the SRS exhaust. Perfect fit, real 304SS & its polished. So far its withstanded the salt of Ohio winter and still looks great with a little wipe off with a towel. Sound is very deep and not raspy, but is kinda loud with a catless DP. Its NIIIIIICE!!!!

I wouldn't ruin the COBB exhaust!

OP: I would just wait to put the downpipe on when/if you get the AP/EM. You could just put the catback on for now and wait till you get the money for AP/EM. Then when you get it, just install the DP. I haven't really read into the resistor mod, so sorry.
