exhaust

alright sorry guys, exhaust is beaten to death, but i just bought an 02 wagon and was wondering as far as exhaust.

1if i get a turbo back exhaust...people talk of boost creep, what is boost creep

4There are exhaust available with high flow cats correct, keeping it legal?

sorry for the newbness, i used to post here a while back when i was driving my svtf, but now ive moved on to the wrx so i need to start modding! All info and related info is appreciated.

alright got rid of two of the questions after reading the guide.....still need answers for these two

You won't have any boost creep issues. Some people have reported it in the STi, but that has a different turbo and wastegate than the regular WRX.

There are downpipes with cats in them, but they are outrageously expensive. If you replace your downpipe with a catless version, you will still have the cat in the uppipe. I'm not sure what kind of inspection they do down there in NC, but here they don't hook the car up to a sniffer or anything, so I have never had a problem getting my car inspected.

Tampering with your cats will make your WRX illegal no questions asked. However, the purpose of putting a highflow cat is to pass emmisions. That doesn't nessarrly mean they check to see if any are missing or swapped. Most places don't care or even take all the effort as long as you're not in the California area. Most places as long as it passes a safe level, you're free to go. Personally here, they don't even use the sniffer either.

you will still have CEL's if you kept the UP cat and got rid of the DP cat's. also the cat in the UP may break apart and destroy your turbo.

that being said, i've ran w/o cats in the DP, but with my stock UP using Cobb's stg2 (for about 10k miles). i just changed out my UP to a cat-less one when i upgraded my turbo.

Yeah it could eat your turbo alive if you raise boost.

you can get a primary dp without and still have the mid-pipe cat. and for uppipe u gain the worry free'ness to raise boost! plus i doubt many e-checkers know of the uppipe cat, unless you run into one who's a turbo ej20 nut like i did before mods. btw if ya didnt know you have 3 cats and all three are in seperate exhaust parts. have fun

I would say that in most cases, they would be clueless. But then again, lady luck can be a real slut ;-)
