Downpipe Downsides??

Well, once again I fall victim to "lack of information".
I've heard that an axle back exhaust does nothing but sound.. fine. A catback exhaust may add 2 HP, but mostly add sound.. FINE!.. All the power is in the dowpipe.. get one of those.. Ok..
In light conversation w/ other tuners it came up that downpipes can cause bigger problems down the road..
I had a lot of STUPID problems w my last car (although non-turbo) and I DO NOT want this one to be anywhere near similar. I need to KNOW this sh*t will work or not.
In this conversation things like "turbo creep, and wastegate slip" (do i have those right) may come up. I don't wanna deal with stuff like that.. so I'm wondering if that is more prominent in STi's and other cars(?) or ours too.
I think subydude.com has the turboback setup I was thinkin' of getting. The Helix Downpipe coupled w bosal midpipe and (dual tip) muffler.
Thanks again for your input.
Jeff

I have had no downsides with my TBE. I've heard the STi's get boost creep from downpipes, but I haven't heard of any issues with WRX.

I've had a downpipe on my car for 40k miles with no problems. Same can be said for a few other local cars. I've never heard of a problem from putting a downpipe on a WRX.

... inceased emissions, makes your catback louder. Um, side effects... your boost will raise by one pound and the new DP will probably last longer than the car. Oh, nevermind those are benifits.

I did catback for about 6 months waiting on Cobb to ship my downpipe, then a few months, later added headers, uppipe & new turbo. No problems at all with any upgrades. AccessPort eliminates any CEL's and every stages worked as expected. Sound is unreal with everything opened up.

is AZ one of those crappy gas states? Do you have any detonation with your stock car toy machine? Some people in cali have issues with the ol/cl delay and detonation due to it, and adding a DP could make that worse if you don't decrease that delay. Running 91 west coast piss (many tuners have said 91 cali acts like 89 anywhere else), 14.7 AFR's and 7 pounds of boost during the ol/cl transition is not a good thing!

you know, I haven't really noticed anything wrong with the quality of gas around here. I doubt there is a problem w the filtering system/./
But, now that you got me all scared, I threw in some STP Octane Booster. Thanks for my newly found paranoia!

The problem with California gas is that the Texans keep peeing in it and telling us it will lower our pollution levels. So I just spike it with white gas every month or two.

I would avoid octane boosters. They're not worth the money and in a few cases, I've heard of them fouling up spark plugs with orange powder crap. Most only raise the octane by at most 10 or 15 points. What they don't tell you is 10 points is .1 octane. So your 91 octane gas with the 3-5 dollar bottle of octane booster is only 91.1 octane.

I agree with Vew and I think I can speak for Ian as well in that we were just joking. I apologize if you took our little comments offensively but you should lighten up a little. What's a car forum w/o some fun right? I think we keep it well under check unlike some other forums lol.

I was just in wal mart this morning, I was looking at octane booster and it said 1 point equal to .1 octane. \

Or they could just be lying.
