Ok im new to subaru tuning but not new to tuning I have searched and nothing seems to answer my question.
If i install a catless uppipe and a catback exhaust(prob borla hush) will i have to tune the car to save from doing damage to the engine or causing trouble with the egt system?
And also installing a catless uppipe will it cause a cel?
No tuning required. The CBE is mostly sound for the 02-07 models of WRX. And the uppipe is mostly a safety thing over performance also. If you search on here there is a way to disable the CEL when changing to a catless uppipe.

You'll more than likely throw a PO546 CEL code(exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit malfunction) You'll need a 2.2 kohm 1/2 watt resistor from Radio Shack. You put it in your egt sensor which is the bottom connector just in front of your passenger side strut tower. Just put one end of the resistor into each hole.
Also, it is recommended that you replace your egt sensor with a M12x1.25 bolt to prevent the sensor from burning up and going into your turbo later down the road.
Ok so I put the resistor in and no cel but what if i use a cobb stage one would it take the code away without the resistor?
And as far as lean cyclinder 3 ive been reading that doing certain exhaust mods causes the egr system to run cyclinder 3 lean is this true or false like i said im new to subbies
On that note, I just ordered a full turboback for my 02 rex, I know its better if you tune it, but how will it do without a tune? What is an easy way to tune for a stage 2?(I don't want to drop 695 on a cobb access port) Anyone got one they want to sell?
Look into opensource. Google it or search on here. You just need a tatrix cable and either your laptop or someont hat has one, and some software to download maps that are either free or pay for some that companies make.

Is there any other replacements that should be done for reliability maybe removing components or bypassing anything to keep me from have issues down the road.
And what type of oil is recomended I ussually use castrol GTX 10-40 or would i need something like mobile 1 syn.

dont run w/o tune if u go turbo-back. i went for like 7-8 months without tune and it was runnin so rich. everyone smelled it wen they got in my car, evn people that dont no crap about cars. it went, had more power but it just didnt feel rite. some guy gave me a base map to run for like a hundred bux and wow, a lot nicer, quicker, everything was better.
a lot of members say u cant run noncatted pipes without tune, u could but its just not safe. anything could go wrong, blown piston, blown gaskets. i guess i just got lucky nothin happend(knock on wood)
The DP and tune is more specific to the 04 and up, and the catless is even more of a problem on the 06 and up WRX. I was running the Castrol SYN 10w30 till this last one. I got the Mobil 1 SYN instead, idk if its in my head, but I swear there is a difference, so I will strart oil shopping earlier to get my oil before the day its needed. Just my .02cents
