B.O.V's are worthless on a stock or even a slightly modded WRX setup. Too much stuff goes wrong. I ran a Greddy Type-RS on my 2004 and it worked great for the first....10 min. and then stuff started going wrong. I wasnt hitting target boost, compressor surge in 1st, 4th and 5th around 10lbs Boost., bogging while shifting (more spool up time than without BOV) If you really want that loud ass sound and want to be like every other rice burner who watched the Fast and the Furious and willing to risk the performance value of your car, then sure, BOV it up. Or you can go the way of the WRX Samurai and do Up-Pipe, Downpipe, Drop in Filter and REflash to Stage 2 and still get the BOV sound but not alerting everyone around you and the police. All a BOV does on a stock or slightly modded WRX is say "Hey look at me"!

But, I digress. A 3-Liter bottle cap with a hose clamp should work just fine.

Hey You know whats actaullly kinda odd. Last night in fact, My friend he is going to college for cars and he was back for the weekend and the last time he had saw me he said he was going to bring some caps for my hose to see how the BOV would sound...So we put the cap on took it around the block got it going a bit (03 wrx no mods yet) and it sounded awful to be honest it kinda had a dying duck effect to it but no we didn't put one of those bird callers on it. Any way on top of the awful sound Idk if this is a obvious statement or not but we both felt the car lost significant amounts of power when flooring it, it didn't seem to have that same pick up or slight throw back into your seat so we took the cap off did another quick run and it didnt have the retarded sound and on top of that seemingly much more power.

With no mods, were you throwing a CEL for running rich? I've been told that using an atmospheric BOV could cause that since the ECU has already measured the air and now you're removing it. Not to mention that it's apparently illegal if your state has emission regulations...
