With a stock ECU, the Recirc valve is better. Not for the reasons you mentioned, but because the MAF counts the air that is dumped when the BOV opens. If you dump to atmosphere, all that air escapes and you are faced witha temporary rich condition. Hotwire MAF's can deal with it better than some, but if you watch your o2's you will see a spike in voltage ie rich when you shift.

The recirc valve dumps that air back into the system and count is never lost so there is always the prescribed amount of fuel in the system.

I just put the HKS SSQV in my car last night and it is 100% atmospheric and as soon as I turned the car on the CEL came on. After I reset the batters it stayed off. Thanks.

What Phast said.
Atmospheric venting _definately_ slows your car down.
Just because you havent thrown a cel doesnt mean that it isnt slowing you down.

Hey Hypnotic....How does that HKS SSQV sound? I was looking into getting that kit for my WRX, was just unsure of where to get a good deal on it, and what it sounded like....Can you give me an idea? Thanks in advance...

It sounds pretty awesome I had GFB berfore and it is a completely different sound from that one it is more of a whistle that pshhhhhhhh sound. I also have an automatic and you can only hear it when I let off of the gas. If you are interested in one I can get you a deal on one. PM me or e-mail me if you are interested. Thanks.
Ivan

So everyone is telling me to get a recirculating BOV to increase power, right? Then there is really no reason to purchase an aftermarket one then.

Yeah the only reason to get a BOV is sound. And I have to admit, the HKS SS sounds sooo nice (a friend has it on his gsx) but Im not willing to sacrifice the performance to get the sound. I thought about getting the Greddy Type S and recirculate, but thats still around $300 for a part that doesnt really do anything for you

BOV- Atmospheric or Recirculating?

After reading a couple of posts, I am starting to think that my BOV might be slowing my car down, true or not? Because I know that the factory BOV blows back into the intake, right? Therefore, maybe making more pressure in the system to spool the ole' turbo again. Am I right or just totally wrong?
