borla cat question

Well, I wasn't originally going to mod past this but i bought a Borla 14978 cat back exhaust. Mow im going the Cobb stage 1 route. I think if that goes good I'm going to add a DP and go stage 2. But the cat back i have states
"Borla's "Aggressive" catback exhaust for the WRX & STi features 2.5" diameter piping, no resonators, and a straight through muffler for improved performance and sound for mildly modified & stock cars. This exhaust is designed to mate perfectly to a stock downpipe, and, unlike the Hush and XR-1, cannot be upgraded with the 3" adapter so keep this in mind; if you're planning on changing out the stock downpipe for a full 3" piece, it will be difficult to mate this exhaust to it. This system is designed for the end-user that wants some more sound and power but isn't planning on heavily modifying their WRX or STi. This system is stainless steel and backed by Borla's million-mile warranty."
Shot in the dark, does anyone know if there is a way to add a 3" dp without "difficulty"? I am still waiting for Borla to get back to me, just wondering if anyone would know. ANY INFO would be great because buying a new cat back or turbo back would suck!

Your post was probably ignored because of the formatting. It was difficult to read so I hope you don't mind me editing it.

Anyway, it depends on your long term power goals, and it depends if you want to install the exhaust yourself. Ideally, if you eventually upgrade your turbo, then you probably want to stick to a 3" catback. If not, then yes, this will be fine.

If you want to bolt on the exhaust yourself, you'll probably have to get a 3" to 2.5" midpipe adapter. I am unfamilair with the reliability of these adapters so you'd have to do some research on your own. I think Grimmspeed makes one. However, if you take it to an exhaust shop, they should be able to modify the piping to get it to mate correctly.

^Yep,

Grimmspeed makes one. The quality and design is actually really good, the catback side allows use of the OEM "Doughnut" style gasket and the downpipe side is setup for a flat 3" aftermarket style gasket.

You can use these with most OEM or OEM style 2.5" catback systems.
