boost spike?

hey guys i am running a manual boost controller and lately i have noticed some major boost creep. the only thing is it only happens when i am in a lower gear and i allow the turbo to spool. if i am at 2000 rpm in second gear and i give it gas when the turbo starts to spool it will jump from 3000rpm to 5000rpm for about 2 or 3 seconds then it will settle back down to 3000 rpm and go normal from there. the funny thing is if i am at 4000 rpm in second gear and the turbo is already spooled and i hit the gas the car pulls great. i dont know if i have a vacuum leak or what, any thoughts...?

Uhhh... I'm not sure that's boost spike. Boost spike is when the turbo spools up too high. Like if you want a max boost of 15 psi, sometimes boost spike will make the peak go to 16 or 17 psi or higher. It shouldn't effect the rpms of the engine. It sounds more like a slipping clutch to me.
