Blown Turbo....BAD?

Had a couple questions im looking to buy another Wrx, this is an 02 with 160,000 miles has had a blown turbo for about a year now..... Does that wear on the motor? for instance maybe make the motor has lost compression? whenever i go up hill i can't gain any speed its sad.... and she wants 4,000 for it 02 Blue with 160,000 miles needs a tune up oil is pretty black, has a gash/dent on the quarter panel and a nice size dent on the driver fender and the spoiler on the trunk is half way on... never really taken care of...... only thing aftermarket is Triple pillar guages and catback exhaust, anyone know what this type situation would be worth $$$ wise???

My subaru buddy said if she put it on craigslist she'd be lucky to get 2,500-3,000...true or false? def not the prettiest lookin car along with the front bumper about to fall off.

ive sceen some on craigslist locally all beat up like that for about that or a little cheaper... not sure if any of what you stated above would effect anything i wouldnt think a turbo would necessarily effect it but then again it was designed that way so im not sure... someone will jump on in and give you forsure answers though

what would you guys sale the whole thing complete for?

DANS20WRX 12-04-2011 01:11 PM

i wouldn't pay more than 2,500 for it... and i wouldnt waste the money putting a turbo in it, i bet that motor is stressed out to the bone only a matter of time till you install a turbo in it and BLOWS UP, not good just would sell it as a parts car buddy. GL

BLAZE2099 12-04-2011 01:38 PM

If you wanna fix it one to two thousand, the miles would scare me and the money put back into it to fix her is not to pretty as well. Not that there isn't guys out there pushing 300000 miles, because there is ( many of them) but that car was beat and your gonna end up not having it very long or at least the motor. If you don't want it to part it, I would just stay away! Just my .02

A blown turbo is not unknown to take the motor with it. What can happen is it can disrupt the flow of oil and bits of metal can get into the oiling system.

Agreed. I would guess you're out of the woods if it's been a year in this condition, but that just underscores what bad care they took of the car. I would think you could get one in the $5000 neighborhood with high miles that has been better cared for, and kept up on. I'd pass that up. Especially with body damage.

BLAZE2099 12-04-2011 07:24 PM

mine was $5500 with 102k with minor molestation. They are out there....just look around and have patience.
I could sell my car rather quick for 8-9 thousand, to the right buyer.

......so just keep searching around, autotrader.com is great for this and craigslist.org
