Best TMIC

Right now im running a stock turbo and would like to upgrade to a larger TMIC... I would eventually like to upgrade to the VF34 turbo...

What would be the best TMIC to get?

If i get a new TMIC do i need to get a bigger hood scoop (i sill have the stock one) prior to getting the TMIC?

Would just a splitter be good with the stock scoop?
Or should i get a larger scoop and a splitter?

I'll let someone else suggest exactly what TMIC to get, but you are probably going to want to go with maybe an STi hood scoop because the more air you can get to that intercooler the better, hence the whole idea of a FMIC.

yeah man I agree FMIC is so much better cause the TMIC heats up way too much and takes too long to cool down. You get more power out of a FMIC. A little lag cause of more tubing but its worth it.

I had the Hyperflow TMIC on my car and it worked great. Everyone gets all caught up in this whole "heatsoak" thing. We did a test just to find out. We took a couple of those digital batter operated indoor/outdoor thermometers with the probe and attached them to the intercooler in a couple different places. After literally 2-3 seconds of driving, the intercooler went back to normal operating temperature after being stopped in 90 degree weather.

Those 2-3 seconds are what everybody hates though. I think you will be fine with a TMIC, and I suggest the Hyperflow as well. It is pretty cheap too which is nice. As for hood scoop, yeah it would probably be best to get a larger hood scoop and splitter (one that fits with the TMIC). You might even have to take off the rubber ducting on the stock scoop because the new TMIC will be a lot bigger. Just my .02 though.

how good is the stock intercooler? Could it handle a turbo upgrade or are you already pushing it with uppipe/turboback/ecu mods and a stock turbo?

I have heard that upgrading your turbo is ok with a stock intercooler as long as you replace the stock intercooler hoses.

The biggest advantage to a FMIC is that you can go a lot bigger in size. Obviously we all know that's what the most powerful WRXs are going to have. A big TMIC is fine plus it's safer if someone taps the front of your car.

Cobb has maps for the Accesport w/ VF34/30 w/ stock TMIC. I mean you could bump boost w/ a bigger IC, but you will be ok on the stock TMIC.

Just throwing this idea out. Buschur has a really nice tmic for $775. I have one of their DSM fmic's and it's a really awesome piece.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...

Intercooler hoses do practically nothing. The may increase flow slightly, but do nothing to cool the air, which is what an intercooler is made to do. I would not run any turbo other than stock with the stock intercooler.

my TXS TMIC stays cool (cold?)
i did a road trip for work 3.5 hour to the job, 30 minutes of work, 3.5 hours back home. it was still cool to the touch.

i ran five 1/4 mile runs (in 30 minutes) today after the Subie/mitsu shootout, and it was still cool, compared to another guy that sprayed his stock TMIC with a water bottle mist because it was HOT!

btw, i'm running a Cobb AP w/ VF30 setup
