another intake question

OK!, I know this has been discused like forever but...

When moddifying the intake system of the wrx, I have read that installing a CAI can be worthless and even a bad thing to do. But what about replacing the panel filter element?
Right now I have an HKS super high flow element (just like the green super mega flow that looks like a mushroom but flat), can this also be bad?
what about deleting the intake silencerand replacing it with an elbow? I,m planning on doing this next, I know this is not going to give me any increase in hp but at least I'm going to hear my turbo (this is my first turbo car)
Anyway I just want to know if I should reverse the HKS filter swap or if it should be fine, I just have it because I used it for two weeks on my 350z just before I traded it for the wrx and it just happen to fit in it as well.

Those don't hurt. It's the shape of the piping on the CAI that is the problem, not replacing the filter itself.

If you replace the panel filter everything should be fine, and the silencer mod is also ok as long as you put in that elbow.

You don't need the elbow for the intake silencer mod.

I know I don't need the elbow, exactly what's the deal with using it or not, pros and cons?

quite or not

First, I took the silencer out, and didn't do anything... just left it like it is without plugging anything up. I could hear the engine more and the turbo spool louder...

Second, I bought the GP Moto elbow, and it made it sound almost like stock again.

Third, my car is weak as crap now. Turbo spools up slower than it used to. My car is totally stock except for a K&N Drop-in. Thinking about just putting stock silencer back in.

Yes, I put it back to stock. Boost kicks in normally now and torque feels back to normal on the "butt" dyno. So, guess it depends on your car. Trial and error baby

Anyone want to buy a barely used GP MOTO delete elbow? $30 shipped ... hehe, pretty much brand new... (warning: May not be worth your money... buy at your own risk)

just saying...

I'm just saying... it "could" work on your car... (note the use of the word "could")

(Some people claim it works great... something about smoother airflow or some bull crap like that... so I'm just trying not to be biased... hahahaha)

I took out my intake silencer and went to the Subie dealer and got a part that plugs up the hole from that ugly ass snorkel (which I took off within the first week of ownership). I then cut the silencer to fit the gap between the air box and the wheel well and have a little bit of a scoop action within the wheel well. It works perfectly and cost near nothing. I also have the K&N element on the way.
