91 octane on a UTEC

I live in Cali and I only have 91 octane. Can I use the UTEC on stage 1 without modifying the map for my octane?

Yes. Usually. Their maps are set up rich to begin with, but they also have "octane challenged" maps for situations such as yours.

for when you do a stage 2

the stage 1 they have should not have issues with 91 octane....but be weary of knock.

if you get knock...jsut change the timing curve a lil

Almost forgot. I was wondering if I can run stage 1 with the stock up pipe, or do I have to change it.

yeah. stage 1 is simply fuel and timing changes...boost is incresed a little. it maxes the power output of a stock engine/exhaust setup.

you feel a good bit of difference.

Stage 1 is intedned for a bone-stock car. You can run it with a downpipe, uppipe, both, neither, whatever. However, if you have upgraded your exhaust pieces, you can run higher boost levels.

Go to www.turboxs.com and look at the dynos. Read and research this material before you purchase. You can learn a lot from their website.

I just got my boost gauge today and a cluster bezel, and I was stumped on what gauge to get. I don't know whether to get an EGT or AFR gauge. I'm gonna ge runnin the UTEC soon so I want to know what gauge would be the most helpful. Thanks

EGT. An AFR gauge won't work. They are made for narrow band sensors, and the WRX uses a wide band sensor.

Well, there are now some companies making gauges that will work, but they are few and far between...

You shouldn't have to worry about EGT's. The TurboXS base maps are set to run slightly rich, which lowers EGT's. I personally would run a stage 2 octane challenged, or maybe the standard stage 2 map with a downpipe. It's basically the same as a regular stage 2 just without the rest of the exhaust.
