5speed to auto?

I have done a few mods and now I fear that I am putting too much strain on my transmission. So my thoughts have wandered toward putting an automatic transmission with an aftermarket torque converter in my car.
Anyone have experience or advice?
It's an 02 wrx with 283whp  so I do have a legit reason to fear for my gears and synchros.

you can knock the teeth out of your gears with STOCK horsepower, so yeah if you aren't careful, you could easily chew up your transmission.

a hardened gearset is MUCH MUCH cheaper than a conversion.

I looked into an upgraded gearset but I don't know enough to figure out what was hype and what was worth the money. Suggestions?

Its called you need to learn how to drive a mt transmission.. i have over 300whp on a stock trans with upgraded clutch and flywheel.. and my trans is fine with launches and everything.. if it is an auto tranny that you have then.. i would just swap it out for sti 6 speed trans..

Well, the three fastest WRX's in the world are all AT cars, but they are not your every day transmission obviously. It's easier to go from MT to AT than the other way around. However, I believe the transmissions are different lengths, so you will need a new driveshaft if that is the case. But, 283 whp is not that much. I have more than that and still have the stock transmission and clutch with 50k miles on them. As long as you drive like you have some sense, you will be fine with what you have.

But, you can get the STi RA gearset for $1300, which is at least what you would spend for swapping in a AT. I would just do that, unless you just don't like a MT.

oh sorry forgot you had an auto .. well unless you want to use your wrx as just a drag car i would swap over to a manual tranny.. and as i stated befor if you can learn how to drive it you will be fine ... also what mods does your car have.. last time a checked a clutch and lighter flywheel doesnt give 60hp ..

Why even respond to his post if all your going to do is criticize him and tell him he needs to learn to drive. Stupid ass remarks like this make this forum more and more like NASIOC.

Does Cobb's ECU Mod work with AT cars? I know the UTEC won't work in 04-05 WRX ATs. Better look into that as well.

RA gearset is he way to go, I put one in my car a while ago, no problems so far, the RA gearset is good for around 350-375WHP safely, I might be swapping out my trans for the 6-speed because I am thinking of moving up to a 60-1 turbo on a built 2.3L motor I am putting together (2.5 if I get around to sleeving it)
