240 Whp?

I'm looking for opinions on the following possible engine tune for my '03 WRX:

Crucial Ceramic Coated T321 Uppipe (w/EGT Fix)
MadDad Twin Dump Downpipe w/Cat
MadDad 3rd Cat Eliminator pipe
Borla 3" Twin Tip Hush Catback Exhaust
Professional ECUTek dyno tune flash

I'm looking to keep a relatively quiet car, just for the street, and I'll probably want to stay with that same setup for a few years (rather than mod it further).

Are the above a good use of $?

Is it reasonable to think I might get safe 240 WHP?

Wow. 5 mods, and 3 from companies I have never heard of....

Here's how I would do it:

1. Helix uppipe
2a. Helix turbo back
2b. Helix downpipe & Bosal cat back (quieter)
3. Cobb reflash

Should cost you about $1800-2000 total (not including installation charges if you don't do it yourself). Not sure about the actual WHP number because all cars react differently to mods, and all dynos read differently. But, should get you close to that.

I agree with cosmo, Although I might have chosen a different combination of parts (i like a little louder exhaust note and perfer a piggyback to a reflash), there's no doubt that's the way to go about approx. 240whp on a well-minded budget.

I also agree, but I would throw in some inter-cooler hose's (any brand there all the same) and maybe an intake but that's a touchy subject, maybe some hyper ground wires? The Ecutek worked very well with my set up, but again there are other choice's

1. Perrin Uppipe
2. Helix Downpipe
3. Catback of your choice
4. Accessport and then just get a custom tuned map, it is cheaper to get dyno tuned on a Accessport than a UTEC. You pay 1000 for the UTEC plus tune, and for the accessport you pay 600 plus the same tuning price.
5. IC hoses

The key is the dyno tune. Both Cobb and TXS claim right around 227 WHP with their engine management and TBE. Plus an uppipe and a GOOD dyno tune, I can see 240 WHP.

alot has to do with the skill of the tuner.. it depends on how much boost you run also what kind of gas.. yeah you could probly get 240whp.. but it also depends on what dyno to.. i think the max i have seen a wrx with thoes mods put down on a dyno is the high 240whp range.. soo if you want 240whp make sure you have a good tuner.. but i think most likely you will end up being in the 230whp range..

A local tuner just had 2 stock turbo WRXs put down 248&251awhp. They both had uppipes, downpipes, one w/ racepipe & one w/ catpipe, and they were both tuned at around 17psi(max. on stock turbo) on 93/94 octane. I think 240awhp should be a reasonable amount given you get a good tune.

Don't forget every dyno is different so you might see higher or lower numbers with the same mods done to your car

good point. Dynos do tend to varry a bit. What do you boys think ... give or take 5-10hp between dynos?

More than that. The KTR dyno seems to run 15% low. No big deal; just multiply by 1.15 to get comparable results.

wow ... i had no idea it ran that off. 15% is quite a bit. Granted, as you pointed out, multiplying by a correction factor solves the problem. But i still feel compelled to expect a little more precision from those machines.

Mustangs usually give low numbers but from what I hear, they are the most accurate.

I don't know about accuracy, because you have no standard to compare it to. You can just compare it to other dynos. And, all the readings are the result of a mathematical interpretation anyways. But, I have heard that Mustangs are the most consistent from run to run...

I agree with cosmos and IBAUCLAPlaya. Helix/perrin up and helix turboback (or just dp with catback of your choice) and Cobb if you want reflash accessport or utech if you want a better tune.

236 Whp

I got the mods done yesterday at KTR and got 236 WHP (corrected).

Did a baseline dyno run and got 172 WHP with pure stock engine. Dyno Dynamics seem to read 15% lower than most dynos.

Installed Crucial Uppipe, catless Stromung divorced wastegate downpipe, and catted Stromung midpipe, and ECUTek dyno flash. Got a 20% increase to 205 WHP and 18% increase in torque to 208 FT LB. The turbo spools up about 500 RPM sooner and pulls well all the way to redline. The turbo spools so freely that I have to wait longer to upshift. The tuning gets full boost (15 PSI) at 3000 RPM.

That's with the stock muffler and resonator. It still runs very quietly, but the turbo sounds are more obvious. KTR said that a 3" straight-through muffler would probably add only 4 WHP and would reduce low-end torque.
